Since this race is going to attract a lot of national attention, I figured I might as well provide a little background.

First of all, my wife is personal friends with Eric, and uses his firm for many complex legal cases. For those interested in certain specific aspects, here they are in no particular order:

1. Eric is originally from Long Island, and yes, he actually lives in the Los Feliz area
2. He moved to LA 35+- years ago to break into the entertainment business as a screen writer (yep, just like Schiff)
3. He's Jewish (yep, just like Schiff)
4. Like Schiff, as his entertainment career never took off, he put himself through law school
5. His client base is almost entirely entertainment - both representation and real estate/property investments
6. He has two children: a daughter who is gay and plays in an artsy/alternative punk band in the Silverlake area; the other is a son who started and runs his own executive jet leasing company
7. Like cocaine Mitch, Eric is dating/engaged to a (hot) Vietnamese nurse
8. Unlike Schiff, Eric is the type of traditional, open minded conservative. Like Trump, he really believes in the classic elements of Americanism: self initiative, be your own person, stick to business
9. Lastly, like Trump, Eric is quick witted who can think on his feet

I remember giving him sort of a jokingly hard time when he ran for statewide AG. While it was indeed quixotic, he had a good time, learned a lot and it helped sharpen his edge. Now, in what might have been a most unlikely scenario just last year, Schiff basically has his mirror image doppelganger running against him. The one key difference, is that if you're a middle of the road liberal/democrat in Los Feliz, will you vote for an asshole lunatic, or essentially the same exact guy but one who is a pro-America Trump supporter?

Unfortunately it’s actually Hollywood. He stands as much chance as a snowball in hell. To bad but the people there are nuts and love loonies like Schiff and Waxman.

Lucky bugger.
Sounds like a great guy, but he'd have a much better chance of winning in Long Island than where he is now. I saw one of his ads the other day. Did he appear on Fox?

The Hollywood know-nothings will vote for their fellow know-nothing Schiff. As usual.

You are assuming Early vs S’hitt in Nov.

He still has to get second place in the jungle primary.

Some think Schiff should be the Dem nominee out of a brokered convention.

Schiff’s predecessor was James Rogan, a Republican, who was one of the prosecutors in Clinton’s impeachment trial. The democrats went after Rogan big time and raised millions for Schiff as a result.

Of course he does. Is there an extra rubber room open for Chris?

I think anyone other than someone with Eric's profile would find it very difficult to run against Schiff in that district.

It's just a weird alignment of a couple of various pieces. First and foremost, within the Loz Feliz district and general entertainment/LA circles, Schiff & Early are essentially the same person business/culture-wise.

Same backgrounds, same contacts, essentially same political positions. That is, other than Schiff's Trump hatred (which he shares with Bloomberg and others), moderate dems aren't really that different than liberal republicans.

Secondly, Eric didn't have to move to the district, unlike many others who run for elective office - he already lives there. Third, Early's law practice is very successful. Like Trump, this is more of a chance to get involved and make a positive contribution, rather than a deep, long term strategy for political power.

If anyone is going to unseat Schiff, it's Eric. If they get a chance to debate, it will be epic. Eric is a trial attorney who represents very big money cases. He's quick, funny and easy going - no crazy dogma. In a different era, Eric would be a classic moderate Dem - just like Trump. However, in this day and age, he's a Rep.

Schiff has literally gone off the deep end. Flip the scenario around and picture a loony bird Rep: if everything was going well, and a person with essentially the same politics promised to deliver some real results, rather than an endless, embarrassing side show, how would middle of the road voters react?
