The British government has unveiled the country's new, blue post-Brexit passports, hailing the return of an "iconic" document that became a thorny issue during the UK's protracted departure from the European Union. The first dark blue passports, which ditch the burgundy covers used by EU member states, will be issued in early March, Home Secretary Priti Patel announced on Saturday. Patel spoke of her excitement that "the British passport will once again be entwined with our national identity." Prime Minister Boris Johnson had previously praised the color change as a "wonderful thing" and bemoaned his "sense of personal loss and outrage" when the UK's previous blue passports were "taken away" in 1988.
What neither mentioned, however, was that the new passports are being made by the Franco-Dutch firm Gemalto at its site in Tczew, Poland.
...This was after the British company who were competing for the contract, De La Rue, lost out on the £260 million 11-year-contract which was handed to the French multinational group Thales.

People in the printing plant may steal some blank passports to sell on the black market.

Don’t know about the rest of the world but US passports have bar codes that provide information. Someone may be able to steal or make a fake passport but they would not be able to enter the US with one.
I would assume the UK passports would have something similar for security.

In September we went to Scotland and Amsterdam. They both use the digital passport scanners just like we do. I’m sure most of the countries that are not third world hellholes do the same.
I don’t think it’d be used for entry into any country but used for ID only - there are people who know how to forge bar codes and stuff and also there’s a chip in the cover (which is why there are instructions not to bend the pp).
exitPOL
???
When were you there? They got the burgundy passports in 1988.
Usually passports in that shade are diplomatic ones.
poland leaving EU... exitPOL
Ah! Thanks!
YW....I don’t think its a hard and fast rule just that I’ve seen a bunch like that.
Nobody said that Brexit would lead to Britain not buying anything from abroad and dropping an imperial Chinese/shogan Japan bamboo curtain on buying foreign goods.
