Hamburg election: Greens make major gains, AfD support falls

Two observations. First, this mornings update on the numbers indicate the right-wing party (AfD) will be noted with 5.3-percent of the vote, just enough to get seats and continue to be in the assembly. That’s just down .8 of a point from 2015’s Hamburg parliament. They didn’t really lose much of anything....they just didn’t gain much over a five-year period.

Second thing, if one uses that stupid ‘Wahl-O-Mat’ software program for the Hamburg area, and take the 37 questions to suggest how you should vote....a lot of the questions revolve around social programs, or ‘free’ stuff. Example, several of the left-leaning parties were suggesting free subway travel, or free child-care. Roughly 75-percent of the voting public there asked for a leftist situation. If you went back 25 years ago, it would have been 60-percent asking for a rightist situation. Times and expectations have changed.

I was in Germany back in the 80s. Even then, I thought there was altogether too much pro Soviet thinking. I thought, whether right or wrong, that even then, Germany was a lost cause. That was just my own opinion. Others may have different opinions.

The Greens in Hamburg went from 432,000 (2015’s results) to 963,000 (2020’s numbers). Part of their success is taking away votes from the SPD (left-of-center) and CDU (right-of-center). You can attribute this to three key things going on in Germany at present.

First, the Greta-people (Fridays For the Future) are pumping up enthusiasm for the Greens. Second, a fair number of Germans see the SPD Party as being a ‘dud’, and lacking any charisma or charm...both nationally and at the state level. Third, if you look at the top ten agenda items for politicians right now...seven of those have something connected to the Green Party.

There’s no doubt that as the national election approaches in the fall of 2021...Merkel’s CDU Party is going to have a rough time, and the SPD folks won’t be able to get past 15-percent of the national vote...which opens the door for the Greens to have a fairly high chance of winning that election.

Finally, I’ll point out this Hamburg regional topic which would make most laugh. There is such a large group of long-term unemployed in the city...that for this election, it was openly discussed by several leftist parties...the idea of giving ‘fake-jobs’ to people out of work for more than three years...to get them into the mindset of accepting employment. In Bavaria, they would have laughed you out of the bar for that suggestion.

This green/warmist crap could somehow throw Germany into recession against all trends. It would not be a good thing for Europe’s largest economy to become unstable.

Voter turnout surged compared to the last election, with local election officials reporting 62% turnout, compared to 56.5% in 2015.

The Green Party are far left like Sanders.

CDU (Conservative) appeared to be working with AfD (perceived Nazi by many) and paid the price, losing with it’s worst result ever in Hamburg.

I made it to Berlin twice. Once, we rode in a van, so we had to go through checkpoints A and B. Those dang Russians were such capitalists. They were trying to sell us all kinds of Russian Army stuff, like belt buckles and other things. . The other time, I rode the troop train from Frankfurt.
I seemed to notice, when we went to East Berlin (in uniform, of course) that the East Berliners seemed afraid of us. My friend said, yes, they are, cuz the Russians told them we would BBQ their children, and try to kill many of them. Evidently, that may have been true. Going to East Berlin was a trip. I remember the sign that said, you are leaving the American sector. I thought we were going right into the belly of the beast. 🤗
