President Trump's new acting director of national intelligence, Richard Grenell, has already made major changes at the agency, including ousting the No. 2 official.
Former acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire and his deputy, Andrew Hallman, resigned on Friday. According to The New York Times, Grenell told Hallman, who has worked for national intelligence and the CIA for three decades, that his service was no longer needed.
Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) praised both Maguire and Hallman for their service after their resignations were announced.
For nearly four decades, Joe Maguire has dedicated his career to securing our country, both in and out of uniform," Burr said. "Ive valued Joes advice and counsel during his tenure as Director of National Intelligence and at the National Counterterrorism Center, and I wish him the best.
Of Hallman, Burr added he appreciated "his extensive knowledge of intelligence matters and his deep respect for the men and women of our [intelligence community]."

Excellent idea to do away with CIA altogether and one that Jack Kennedy pushed after the Bay of Pigs. Military intel can do their jobs and do them much better without the expense, the incompetence and the sunk in bureaucracy. I suspect that if Trump gets reelected, the day after will be to take care of “family business” including firing Wray at FBI and a lot of second and third tier appointed types who somehow slipped in under the radar and have been causing havoc ever since.
Takin’ out the trash. Good!
That conspiracy theory guy is Kash Patel.
No one can say anything about it..or else they are homophobes?
Good! Now to appoint somebody at the State Department who will clean out that place with a flamethrower.
I suspect that will be Grenell’s job once he is done at ODNI.
including an expert on Trump conspiracy theories.
Yet The Hill famously labeled John Solomon’s reporting as “opinion.”
Just remember Mitch selects the Pubbies to sit on and chair this committee.
Burr is corrupt, as is McConnell, who put, and keeps, him in the position.
Don’t forget about building China into a massive economic, military and political competitor.
That would also be good in that it would mean Pompeo was gone.
Yep, they all need to go.
Start over only for as very much absolutely needed with a clean slate.
I believe the Deputy job at State Dept. is the one who day to day manages the work force. Could be wrong. Grenell also could be in line to eventually replace Pompeo given his experience as ambassador, too.
I think for decades the two parties have been running the country like a mafia - pretending to have differences while they shared in their stealing from the taxpayers. They profited from selling us out and leaving We The People with the bill.
He’s a major Deep State player and Never Trumper.
I don’t think he is compromised. He actually enjoys his role, and thinks he is the better man. Typical arrogance of the “ruling class”.
Mr. Patel has already sued Politico for their false claims.
I hope he also sues The Hill.
Patel worked for Devin Nunes, and has repeatedly said the Russian Collusion investigation was a hoax. Well, so did Mueller in his report, and we KNOW that the FISA warrants were obtained illegally by the FBI actually LYING to the Court.
So, how can THe Hill stand by this new lie?
Why wait? Do it now.
This can be good AND less immediately political than it will seem to the media.
The best thing it does is give Grenell the room to make his own choices on two top positions. Hopefully like Trump Grenell will go outside the formal intelligence community agencies and bring in some new blood.
Morality?
They are both defective humans
“Morality” ?????
OK, I’ll agree to that
