One of the Democrats’ favorite talking points on gun control is that we don’t need military weapons of war on America’s streets. Former mayor Pete Buttigieg has been the most effective of the presidential candidates at making this claim, because of his military background.

Having survived my encounter with SIX gang-bangers on a Sunday afternoon several years ago, I know that in fact “Military Style” weapons may occasionally be a necessity.
The ‘bangers travel in packs, a bolt-action or revolver may not be enough.
If we civilians are not to be trusted with effective weapons neither should the police or security guards.

That's not true. The standard US Army shotgun is the Mossberg 590. You can buy one at any gun story. The standard US Army sidearm is a Sig-Saur 9mm semi-auto pistol which, again, you can buy at any gun store. For years one of the US Army's standard sniper rifles was a variation of the Remington 700. This rifle has been one of the most popular civilian deer hunting rifles for decades.

This asshole doesn’t know this because he had ZERO military training. Not even ROTC. He would not know an M16 rifle from a 1911 pistol. Politicians know less about firearms than my 10 year old grandson.

Just because one served in the military doesn’t mean one is an expert on guns.
My example: 20 year navy Vet, only handled two guns during the 20 years. A pistol (don’t even remember the caliber) during boot camp, and a .38 near the end of my career trying to qualify as expert (I wanted the medal, didn’t make it). And the .38 was voluntary.
In those days, unless you were assigned to a security detail you never used a gun.

You meant the AR-15, and not the general term “Assault Rifle”.
For the Democrats, the confusion is deliberate.
