SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WGEM) A Senate bill in Illinois would ban the use or sale of gas-powered leaf blowers in the state.
Illinois Senator Laura Fine (D) SB3313 filed last week by Senator Laura Fine (D) of the 9th Senate District amends the Environmental Protection Act. It states that "a person may not operate or sell at retail a gas-powered leaf blower in the State. Provides that a person who violates the amendatory Act's provisions shall be subject to a civil penalty not to exceed $500."
The bill lists environmental and noise pollution as the reasons for the ban.
It states that two-stroke and four-stroke engines used in gas-powered leaf blowers emit exceedingly high rates of pollutants, including carbon monoxide, nitrous oxides, and hydrocarbons.
These emissions, the bill states, are a contributing factor to smog formation and acid rain.
The bill also claims that leaf blowers generate noise at a decibel level capable of causing hearing loss in a short amount of time.
In addition, it states that leaf blowers send dust and other small particles like metals, allergens, and animal feces into the air for considerable distances.
If signed into law, the bill would make use or sale of a gas-powered leaf blower illegal in the state of Illinois as of January 1, 2022.
Violators of the law would be subject to a fine up to $500.
not for continuous hours of service nor in commercial settings
assuming standard 3’ by 1.5’ bag. I blew that many leaves in 15 min with gas blower into piles to be removed by tarp and open trailer - had to use blowers cause suck truck which does 10X in 30 minutes was down. Ban blowers today mowers tomorrow and looking at you gas powered car.
also looking for multiple new power generation facilities with a 24/7 daily sustainable 1250MW.
i remember some years back when a similar ban was proposed on snowblowers. my bro who was a lobbyist for big oil did a tete-a-tete with dickie bin durbin on “chicago tonight.” it was quite entertaining.
It's pretty easy to do a search and see that that is exactly what the bill proposes.

They are loud.
If they pass this though I’m gonna have to use one just to flaunt it.
It looks like you are correct. I heard Camille Y. Lilly on the radio last week and she said the “you can still pump your own gas”. I guess she lied.
While that is true, that is also not what leaf blowers do.
IMHO, noise pollution does not exist: there is only noise. It is not an environmental “problem” like poisonous water.
Any dust created is minimal and temporary, unlike nuclear fallout which tends to stick around.
Just not a fan of any government dictating my choice of yard implement. And don’t get me started about my charcoal grill....
