[Intro by poster topher] Two bodies still trapped under wreckage after 4 months...
NEW ORLEANS
Four months after the Hard Rock hotel construction site on Canal Street collapsed, the mangled concrete and twisted steel still looms over downtown New Orleans.
On the border of the collapse zone, a memorial for the three men killed in the collapse continues to grow. Advertisement
The site has become a landmark, with visitors and locals stopping to take pictures and write messages on ribbons for the families of Anthony Magrette, Jose Ponce Arreola and Quinnyon Wimberley, who died when the building fell Oct. 12, 2019.

It is hard to believe that John Bel Edwards graduated from West Point. Maybe he only wants to make money these days - and not do real work.
I guess the qualification for the current Mayor of New Orleans is that she is a (1) Democrat. (2) an Afro-American. (3) a woman.
Sad. How sad.
Don't get killed at work in Louisiana...
EVERY city that is run by a DEMOCRAT Mayor is a DISASTER!!
It’s Nawlens and a private project. What do you expect the mayor and the governor to do exactly?
Seems to me all that is going on now is they're lookin at how much they can tax/scam the public to pay for it.
How embarrassing.
OH, I don’t know, perhaps enforce the building code for starters?
Maybe ensure worker safety standards are enforced?
Hire a competent inspector or two?
There are three things the respective governments SHOULD have been doing., for starters.
It’s a fitting symbol for New Orleans, a crime-riddled city that spits on its own history and heritage and embraces useless, empty substitutes. A narcissistic mayor and his leftist eggers-on took down beautiful monuments of people significant to the city’s past. I think the death and ruin represented by the collapsed building is a great new replacement monument to the reality of New Orleans today.
I have a problem with someone who ran a political campaign who used photo of himself under a statue of General "Blood & Guts" Patton.
Like John Bel Edwards is in the 'same league' as General Patton.
One thing Admiral Chester Nimitz refused to do after World War II was use the blood of American sailors and soldiers to side with others politically.
So just what exactly caused the collapse in the first place?
From what I can gather, they removed too much temporary shoring too early. There were also most probably engineering defects in the structure due to changes. The workers were complaining about the building feeling unsafe the day before the collapse.
maybe they used the same engineers who built the pedestrian bridge that collapsed in South Florida.
Reminds me of post Katrina - if it happened in MS, the site would be cleaned up and the bodies recovered and plans for the site being made.
They’re just proving the total disarray and incompetence after Katrina wasn’t a fluke.
Savannah, GA just elected the largest group of dimocrat dimwits youve ever seen. If you want to visit Savannah, I suggest you do so soon because theres not gonna be much left before long.
They are now tearing down historic buildings to build hotels. Talk about killing the Golden Goose. But hey, its just what dimocrats do
Rats and minority contracts
Amazing. You can bet the vermin have found those bodies and are picking them apart.
I can understand underground coal miners or people lost at sea where you don’t try to recover the bodies but, this is an above-ground construction site. Why are they not attempting to recover the bodies and *then* they can all fight over how much it costs and who has to pay for it?
This just shows a wanted disrespect for human life, IMO.
Why, after Hurricane Katrina, were federal funds used to rebuild a long-doomed New Orleans?
How much money is wasted pretending to educate?
(BTW, Detroit illiteracy is 47%)
Low bidder special.
The problems are many, yet all related. In democrat run cities, when there is a lot of money involved, the level of greed and corruption far outweighs the obligation to do things according to pesky little things like laws and codes. The building was poorly designed, poorly built, poorly inspected, and now it is a dangerous liability both physically and legally because of how it got to this point.
The Hard Rock Hotel in Biloxi, Miss was days away from opening when Hurricane Katrina destroyed it. The Beau Rivage, right next door, cleaned up and reopened in a short time. The Hard Rock had to be totally rebuilt. It makes me think long and hard about engineering and construction that goes into Hard Rock Hotels.
As I understood it, the reason the cleanup of some areas of New Orleans after Katrina were similar to the delay along parts of the Jersey shore after Hurricane Sandy: Nobody was going to risk investing in an area that wasn’t naturally stable, and any constructions would be difficult, if not impossible, to insure. Even the Ground Zero rebuilding in NYC was delayed for many years; there simply wasn’t enough demand for new office space there (the vacancy rate even back in 2001 undoubtedly saved many lives by reducing stairwell traffic during the evacuation).
