This will be a weekly post.
Count is now 190 judges confirmed.
137 District Court judges
51 Circuit Court judges
2 Supreme Court justices
Promises made, promises kept, what more could you ask?
A good week.
There are 3 already in motion for next week: District Court Puerto Rico (nominated 10/15/2019), 15 year term Tax Court (nominated 02/06/2019) & a 10yr term in District Court Virgin Islands (nominated 06/12/2019).
It’s good these nominees are finally having their day.
Only Diane Gujarati, of New York, Barbara Bailey Jongbloed, of Connecticut, Scott H. Rash, of Arizona, Stephen A.Vaden, of Tennessee-International Trade, and Grant C. Jaquith, of New York for Veterans Court of Appeals remain on the Senate floor eligible for cloture and confirmation by the Senate.
There are now 17 nominees pending hearing before the executive committee & 11 already in the hearing process. There are ~44 vacancies on District Court without nominees, mostly NY(6 + 1 announced), NJ(6), Washington State(5), Ohio(3) and California (3). There is one Circuit Court vacancy on the 5th Circuit.

Senator Graham needs to push more of these nominations through the Judiciary Committee.
Trump claims he will have the courts fully staffed by the end of his second term. How many court openings are left (I realize that’s a moving number)?
Of course, the reason there were so many vacant judgeships is because Reid and McConnell played stalling games with confirmations in hopes the other party would take over. They both threatened the “nuclear option” and Reid finally did it then promptly lost the next election so McConnell said “If it’s good for the Dems, it’s good for us) and the vote is still simple majority.
Trump and McConnell are doing a good thing getting so many of these positions filled so some of the Clintonites retire and to fill them before a President Sanders or Buttigieg fills them after Trump.
Im most interested in getting that Circuit Court seat filled. Hopefully, a few more will open up soon so he can fill them this year. He has almost completely counterbalanced Obama in just one term. When he wins in November, then well make real progress on transforming the federal courts.
One caution: District judges (still) are subject to the “Blue Slip.” That means in a state with two D senators, they can withhold approval, meaning the nomination is killed or not voted on. (Same thing when D president and a red state, which Zero honored).
Grassley removed the “Blue Slip” for appellate judges, but it’s still in place. Some of the judges Trump submitted were horse trading in blue-slip states and not all are Rs. Most are, however.
Agreed.
Thanks for that. I was wondering how many openings there were left to fill. It looks like there are a lot.
