The numbers coming out of China are completely fake.

The only way to track death and recovery rates of this virus will be countries outside China. Lets hope that the rest of the world can keep it from spreading to the point where it overtakes the ability for the health systems to care for the people who get this.

Looker has a real talent for what he does.
He is very connected to his viewers and is thankful to them for sharing information in real time.
Also he gives an opinion about what is occurring while he makes clear those are his current thoughts based on updated information.

Not quite a drop in cases - more like a drop in the number of NEW cases.

More likely a decline in testing capacity than anything else. But who knows.

There are not enough doctors for all the patients they have put in those new facilities. They are just warehousing the people they think are infected together. You either get better or do not.

3. even give all that, the reported dead vs recovered ratio still ain’t great.

Also remember that as infrastructure breaks down (and its well past broken there), the hospitals are more likely to see the relatively milder cases (the sicker cases, which 3 weeks ago would have called for an ambulance or Uber, are now dying behind closed doors, because there is no way they could walk to the hospital, or wait around for half a day just to be told to come back tomorrow). So this ratio will get even more misleading.

Plus, hospitals are going to have their own method for determining who gets tested and who doesn't. They are going to make that determination in part, factoring in what makes them look better to the people who would kill them on a whim. Basically, there is not a single number coming out that is even worth the paper its written on.

Now that is what I was worried about. If it is in India, that is a total disaster.

While Googling ‘twitter coronavirus’ and other search strings, I noted there seems to be some fires of unknown origin happening in Wuhan. Level of anger rising. Many fights.

I finally got around to reading the narrative that come out of China, and it has a SIGNIFICANT detail Steve has been missing - the cases China has been reporting are PNEUMONIA cases, NOT virus cases.

That allows us to do a more ‘contextual’ comparison between this coronavirus and the common flu.

According to Wiki, Flu cases in the US fluctuate each year, And have ranged from 9 million to 45 million over the last 10 years. And the deaths ranged from 12,000 to 61,000.

So that’s about .13% deaths from the flu.

with the coronavirus, we have 31,800 pneumonia cases and 635 deaths to date - about 2% death rate.

IF There were actually twice as many coronavirus cases, and only half resulted in known pneumonia cases, the death rate would still be 1%, or almost 9x as deadly as the common flu.

Just an observation...

I still don’t believe they’d do what they’re doing for a 1% mortality rate. That’s a rounding error number for their population.

I’ve seen rumors of 3000 confirmed cases. but authorities don’t want to have complete pandemonium on their hands.

Just imagine what it would (will?) be like if this were to get into the slums of Rio, or Lagos, or Mexico City, or any number of backward “holes”. Say what you want about China, we know that they are fairly good about keeping people in line. But you put a highly contagious, 5+% fatality rate, disease into any of these other areas, and you will get something right out of the dark ages (albeit on a much, much larger scale).

Watch out Utah...

Coronavirus Impacting Missionary Service In Hong Kong 113 Missionaries will be transferring out of the China Hong Kong mission in the next few days.

Updated February 5, 2020

The Church issued the following updated statement regarding missionaries being transferred from Hong Kong and Macau:

The Church continues to monitor developments with the coronavirus. Overnight, we have learned that some of the missionaries leaving the China Hong Kong Mission will not undergo quarantine at a government facility as previously believed. Therefore, these 17 missionaries (who are citizens of the Philippines) will be isolated and separated from contact with other missionaries for 14 days at the missionary training center in Manila before departing for their new assignments or returning home.

The Church feels an important responsibility to do all we can to help these missionaries stay healthy and avoid even the remote possibility of spreading the virus. Staff at the missionary training center will work carefully to meet all the needs of these missionaries while they are there and to keep themselves and other missionaries safe by following proper health protocols.

As we have noted previously, for several days prior to leaving Hong Kong, all missionaries have rigorously followed preventative health practices to avoid illness including remaining in their apartments as much as possible, not engaging in teaching, wearing masks, and frequently washing their hands. Therefore, the likelihood of any of these missionaries having contracted the coronavirus is very low. Additionally, each missionary was required to show no symptoms before leaving Hong Kong.
