After acquittal, Trump unleashes fury at impeachment

Exulting in his impeachment acquittal, President Donald Trump took a scorched-earth victory lap Thursday, unleashing his fury against those who tried to remove him from office while looking ahead to his reelection campaign.

Trump, triumphantly waving a newspaper front page - “ACQUITTED” - denounced his political foes, declared the impeachment proceedings a “disgrace” and portrayed himself as a victim rather than a president accused of serious corruption. That echoed broadsides hours earlier that stunned the crowd at an annual prayer breakfast.

“It was evil, it was corrupt,” Trump declared at the White House. “This should never ever happen to another president, ever.”

“We went through hell, unfairly. We did nothing wrong,” he continued.

Trump vented about his grievances against the impeachment process and ticked off names of the “vicious and mean” people he felt had wronged him: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff and former FBI Director James Comey. But then he reveled in the verdict delivered by the GOP-controlled Senate the day before.

Going one by one, Trump spent nearly a half hour in rambling remarks saluting GOP lawmakers who backed him both in the Capitol and on television.

His remarks were especially jarring and whiplash-inducing coming after a series of scripture-quoting speeches, including a keynote address by Arthur Brooks, a Harvard professor and president of a conservative think tank, who had bemoaned a “crisis of contempt and polarization” in the nation and urged those gathered to ”love your enemies.”

Because there are too many Never Trumpers in the Senate. If he fires Barr he has to get HIS choice past Mitch and the other pirates.

Hillary still owns DOJ

Hillery is supposed to be in prison by now.

She can't run the Deep State from Deep Stir.

Strangle the last Democrat congressman with the entrails of the last Democrat senator.

I don’t disagree with anything you’re saying. Could it be that a special counsel is investigating the issues you cite at this very time? Trump isn’t compelled to announce what’s going on behind the scenes.

The days are over when foreign entities can donate to US candidates, "charitable" foundations, and hire persons whose only
qualification is being connected to a powerful person in the US government so as to manipulate US policy, and get special favors......

Conniving get-rich-quick legislators vote endless foreign aid, which is then rerouted into their pockets. This must end.

Trump needs to rein in the State Dept which is the fountain of wealth for all these greedsters.
Exactly how many tax-paid employees in the State Dept cater to the Ukraine?

You make valid points and I get the politics of it, but what does he have to lose?

Remember, “we must give Mueller the space and freedom to conduct his independent investigation.” He found NOTHING.

Hell, at this point announce it and say the ONLY people who will be sent to prison are those who lie to the special counsel. Commute their sentences up front - while it chaps me to say it, at this point we simply want the truth.

Gather the facts, conduct interviews, get the records, interview foreigners involved and put it all out there for the American people to digest on their own. Identify those involved regardless of party (you can bet there were republicrats also).

It must be stopped.

If his calculation is as you reasonably stated and he holds out until after November this should be the subject of his first state of the Union address to start his second term.

I get the political risks, but his first and foremost duty is to do the right thing by the American people and he has in many regards far more than I ever hoped. However, this problem must be addressed or “we” will never drain the swamp.

““As a party, we strongly disagree with the vote cast today by Senator Romney,” the party stated.“

“We stand firmly behind our President, whose policies have created unprecedented levels of American prosperity. The impeachment effort has served only to distract America from the serious issues we face, and in November voters will hold Democrats accountable for this distraction.”

-- If he goes on the offensive now, unknowns are introduced for what gain? --

He's been personally hands-off on DOJ. To the extent unknowns of criminal prosecution of Comey, Brennan, Clapper, McCabe, Strzok, etc. are introduced, it's not by his hand.

I expect a big fat factual reveal of the depth of perfidy against Trump, followed by absence of criminal prosecution. This becuase non-violent sedition is not a crime.

But non-violent sedition is just the same a revolutionary act against the people.

Sunlight will deliver its own reward.

I think the ongoing investigation is limited in scope to the start and process of the Russia, Russia, Russia investigation.

I do not think they are looking into anything else.

How would they ever keep an investigation into the Biden’s secret? Not possible.

There are far more people than just the Biden’s who need to be investigated inside and outside of government.

Imagine for a second.... Ukraine is just one of the hundreds of nations/entities we provide aid to. Imagine how big this is and how much taxpayer money is involved. This goes far beyond the Ukraine.

LTNS. Totally agree, SC is a scam, a place to play political hijinks, and Barr is wise enough to know better.

Amen! See my last post. I just want to know the truth and I want this crap stopped. Not just now, but in the future too.

We cannot run a government like this. It is corrupt and rotten.

I didn’t really see a lot of “fury."

Nor much "scorched-earth victory lap" nor "remarks [that] were especially jarring and whiplash-inducing."

Typical biased pro-Democrat AP tripe.

A special counsel is “bi-partisan.” In reality, it is not, but that is what they told us over and over 3 years ago.

If not a special counsel than what? Anything Barr does with DOJ will be attacked as completely partisan. They already attack him relentlessly.

What is the answer if not a special counsel? Bi-partisan committees are impossible and more feckless than special counsels.

This is the real “Drain the Swamp”!!!! It must be investigated and sunlight, as you state above, is a necessity.

KOA Radio carried this live. I was really surprised. Their programming skews conservative but their newsroom is liberal. Maybe they are finally figuring out that the country doesn’t want to listen to their fake news.

This crap and worse has been going on for as long as the older one of us has been alive, and then some. The government IS corrupt. It is a parasite on the body politic. It is way outside its constitutional boundary.

I just want the people to wake up, get wise. Powerful forces are aligned against the public, and unfortunately these powerful forces are attractive.
