Exulting in his impeachment acquittal, President Donald Trump took a scorched-earth victory lap Thursday, unleashing his fury against those who tried to remove him from office while looking ahead to his reelection campaign.
Trump, triumphantly waving a newspaper front page - ACQUITTED - denounced his political foes, declared the impeachment proceedings a disgrace and portrayed himself as a victim rather than a president accused of serious corruption. That echoed broadsides hours earlier that stunned the crowd at an annual prayer breakfast.
It was evil, it was corrupt, Trump declared at the White House. This should never ever happen to another president, ever.
We went through hell, unfairly. We did nothing wrong, he continued.
Trump vented about his grievances against the impeachment process and ticked off names of the vicious and mean people he felt had wronged him: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff and former FBI Director James Comey. But then he reveled in the verdict delivered by the GOP-controlled Senate the day before.
Going one by one, Trump spent nearly a half hour in rambling remarks saluting GOP lawmakers who backed him both in the Capitol and on television.
His remarks were especially jarring and whiplash-inducing coming after a series of scripture-quoting speeches, including a keynote address by Arthur Brooks, a Harvard professor and president of a conservative think tank, who had bemoaned a crisis of contempt and polarization in the nation and urged those gathered to love your enemies.

Interesting that these Snowflakes feel micro-agressed by President Trump’s remarks when one of the people he gave a shout-out to was Steve Scalise. Someone who was macro-aggressed by an individual that these Pajama Boys and Girls cater to.
Until there are arrests...
Until then....It is a tale, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Maybe its just me but I thought I pretty clearly heard Trump prod Barr, not once but twice.
I think they’re circling the wagons.
Sounds like AP’s gonads caught in a chipper...
“rambling remarks?” I don’t ever remember feeling like Donald Trump rambles.
I believe there needs to be serious political and legal consequences for the obvious abuses by the ‘rats in and around Congress. Not just censure, not just losing their seat in the next election. I mean investigations, indictments, prosecutions, and prison sentences. Their actions were numerous, planned, and done with full cognizance of the consequences and illegality of them. They must be made to pay a heavy price else this kind of BS will be repeated.
He did prod him.
He has prodded him repeatedly.
Rudy offered to present the evidence he collected and nothing.
The Ukrainians offered to present the evidence he collected and nothing.
This is on Trump - not Barr. That is why I said, he cannot wait if there is not a real investigation. I suppose that is between him and Barr, but outside of the one investigation into a narrow scope of this, I am not aware of any other investigation. If he (Barr) were looking into this why would the President prod him?
He must demand a special counsel be appointed. I cannot understand why he has not done so forcefully.
F U A P
I hope he singled you out for some specific complaints
Ya think?
Three louts writing this Asspress tripe?
I watched President Trump’s statement and I thought that he was very calm and measured.
In my mind, those individuals who had been conducting this odious, subversive attempted Coup D’etat, would be making themselves very scare right about now. As in seeking out locations with no extradition agreement with the United States.
I am not aware of any other investigation.
Dont forget about Durham.
Gotta love those reporters!
I didn’t watch the whole thing at the White House but what I saw was a guy who very graciously pointed out all the people that helped him through the process. He heaped paiise on guys like McConnell, Grassly and even Mike Lee. Trump spoke to his team like a leader is supposed to speak. He acknowledged the challenges that were faced and the successes achieved.
I couldn’t help but draw a mental contrast between his “team spirit” speech and her “sour grapes” press conference. Trump was genuine in his praise and even a bit self deprecating at points. The Speaker, on the other hand, just blamed everyone else for her failings and patted herself on the back for her rude political stunt.
His polls are going up due to his economic success. He strengthens his base by playing the victim card. That is what he will do to get re-elected. In politics you dont screw up what is working. The demorats will continue launching attacks. He will continue to highlight he is a victim.
If he goes on the offensive now, unknowns are introduced for what gain?
Nothing will conclude before the election. Hillary still owns DOJ.
Trump hasnt done anything substantive to drain the swamp. He has in fact protected it with his appointees.
So, do you want the unknowns of your righteousness with possible blow back on swamp republicans, or do you want Trump re-elected with at least a Senate majority? His negatives will only be enhanced if he is seen as an aggressor.
Twenty-first century professional story tellers were most likely at that impressionable age when the ‘it takes a village’ message was being hammered out to America.
I agree. He should announce a formal investigation into everything surrounding this - and pick persons of absolute confidence - and make it clear that this is a legitimate, legal investigation and will have legal consequence for anyone found to have done wrong - from plotting a coup to leaking classified information to lying under oath to bribery and extortion of foreign parties, etc....the list is pretty long.
“special cousel” is DC -speak for taking names, assembling “control files” on one-another, feeding the press “leaks” and “innuendo” BS, sweeping it under the carpet...and basically making sure the K-St-Overseas DC laundromat bribery merry-go-round doesn’t jump the tracks consequent a careless noobie...
we can’t rely on just trump to fight this battle alone...
everyone that supports him and stands for america should go full on scorched earth against their elected representatives (d and/or r) until they get the message we’re sick and tired of being abused and taken advantage of...
november is fast approaching...
That was the investigation I referenced. It is narrow in scope and I do not see any indication that it has anything to do with Ukraine.
I am very frustrated with what occurred in the last administration.
Ukraine, Romania, China, and a whole host of foreign relations appear to have bribed our government, with assistance from the State Dept and others, in return for favorable action or even direct aid (taxpayer money).
Soros and other NGO’s appear to have been involved as well as past and present politicians and bureaucrats.
The “Clinton Foundation” model appears to have been applied by many people to government business - aka quid pro quo.
Trump has kept his promises, but all he has done to drain the swamp is expose the tip of the iceberg. They hate him with a burning white fury. They attack him and his family constantly along with the media.
The words I wrote above are the perfect tenor to strike - ask for a special counsel, have no direct involvement or comment on it, and tell the American people that the facts gathered will be presented to them.
It is his constitutional duty to do this and it must be done for the next generation. If the swamp is not drained, and I see no evidence that it has been, it will win if not now in a year, 5 years, or longer, but it will not change.
He should also state that he will work with congress after the results of the investigation to craft new ethics rules and laws and appoint a special master to administer all foreign and U.S. aid of any kind with a full accounting of those funds and where and to whom they went and how they were used.
Every dime of U.S. foreign aid and assistance should be available for review by each citizen.
