James Carville sounds the alarm as Sanders surges in primary: 'I'm scared to death' for Democratic Party

Democratic strategist James Carville expressed his concerns as the Democratic primary race is officially underway, saying he's "scared to death" of the direction his party is going.

Appearing on MSNBC, Carville began by pointing to the success Democrats had during the 2018 midterm elections and stressed that it "matters" who the candidates are and what the party chooses to talk about.

"I'm 75 years old, why am I here doing this? Because I'm scared to death, that's why," Carville exclaimed. "Let's get relevant here ... all the Sanders people are taking pictures wishing Jeremy Corbyn the best. ... I don't want to go down that path."

This is the kind of stuff that happens when Democrats stop letting Russia choose their primary winners

He should be concerned. Bernie will be an epic disaster and guaranteed loser in the general. However, not enough attention is being given to what he would do to the democrat party across the board.

How would you like to be a democrat running in a district Trump won or one that relies on the energy sector for their livelihoods with Comrade Bernie out on the stump promising to destroy your community with his ideas?

While I am enjoying popcorn watching all the drama, I do not blame the democrats for being upset. This guy IS NOT A DEMOCRAT!!!! Period. He does not even donate to the DNC, yet they allow him to run like he owns it so they do not alienate his supporters.

I am no fan of Carville, but is instincts on politics are among the best. He is right. Bernie will not only take them over a cliff.... he could fracture the democrat party in a way that was unimaginable only 4 years ago.

Sanders is pure poison to the DNC. The DNC will pull every kind of shady trick they can to get him to lose, but he may win anyways. There is still a long way to go, but it is not going well for them!

Trump would be lucky to get more than 20% of the black vote. Black females pretty much guarantee 20% as an upper limit.

The big question is who is going to be the person to actually get the nomination at the brokered convention

Can any normal, sane person imagine voting for Lizzy Warren, Bernie or Biden.

Butty boy is literally the sane, responsible and rational choice from that group.

Let that one sink in

20% would be monumental. If Trump gets 20% of the black vote, he will win in a Reagan-sized landslide.

I guess there is a way for Trump to win California. Bernie would need to lose the DEM nomination, then decide to run as a 3rd party candidate. Many believe he would just settle for some financial gain, like in 2016, if he didn’t get the DEM nomination. But he’s not getting any younger, and this might be his last real shot at the presidency, prompting a possible 3rd party run. Even then, Trump would need to improve a lot on the 31.5% he garnered in California for 2016.

Did he think that you could tip-toe around the edge of the socialist abyss without eventually falling into it?

Too many states are gone for a Regaan-sized landslide for Trump, even if he magically received 20% of the black vote (I’m thinking 12% tops - it was 8% in 2016). At least 150 EVs would go to just about any DEM candidate. CA, NY, IL, NJ, MA, MD, VT, CT, DC, WA, HI for starters. That’s 163 EVs.

Good post.

I’m hoping it will be Sanders versus Trump in the general election.

I agree. It will almost a Reagan size win, these days, if he gets 350 EC votes.

The only way Trump could win California is after California falls into the socialist abyss that is the end point of every socialist endeavour and people want to rebuild from the rubble.
