MANILA, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Blood samples taken from pigs in a southern province in the Philippines, the world's 10th-largest pork consumer, tested positive for the African swine fever virus, the Department of Agriculture said on Sunday.
It was the first reported case of African swine fever infections in Davao Occidental province and elsewhere in Mindanao, the southern island of the Southeast Asian nation.

Seems like we already have everything but the swarms of locusts (actually there are in Africa).
We have to be careful not to get too carried away by all the pestilence and disease currently being reported. The only difference between today and most years long since past is that everything is reported, whereas before, it seldom was.

As predicted, China is sharing its most devastating current plagues with other parts of the world. In addition to the Wuhan coronavirus and swine flu, a new round of bird flu has appeared in China. The effects of transmission to the Third World are likely to be devastating for many, with China and its often slipshod practices justly at risk of getting considerable blame.

It’s been all over the northern part of the country now for months.

Not nCoV, but very bad news.
Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

I was thinking the same thing, he’s been the busiest guy on the site now for a couple of weeks. He’s had to surf through more doom and gloom in the last few weeks than in the previous 5 years I think.

That’s not a warning to start planning your memorial service, is it?
You’re not feverish, coughing, seeing visions of talking zebras?

Low grade fever since 1/19. Minor, intermittent cough. Your zebras don’t talk?

Vietnam just announced their public school year will not start as scheduled tomorrow, they will look again in a week.
My understanding, anyway.
