The Senate is expected to hold an acquittal vote in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump next week, Republican senators told reporters on Friday evening.
Following a closed-door Senate Republican conference meeting, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Sen. Mike Braun (R-ID) said the upper chamber will vote on an organizing resolution to establish the procedures for next week’s votes. Lawmakers are expected to deliver their closing arguments on Monday and hold open deliberations Tuesday. A vote on the articles of impeachment — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress — will occur Wednesday.
“There was some feverish discussion,” Braun told The Hill.
Earlier Friday, the Senate voted 51-49 against a motion to allow for subpoenas to be issued for additional witnesses and documents in the trial.
In a statement, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) lauded the vote’s outcome and predicted that the trial will end “in the coming days.”
“A majority of the U.S. Senate has determined that the numerous witnesses and 28,000-plus pages of documents already in evidence are sufficient to judge the House Managers’ accusations and end this impeachment trial. There is no need for the Senate to re-open the investigation which the House Democratic majority chose to conclude and which the Managers themselves continue to describe as “overwhelming” and “beyond any doubt,” said McConnell.

I was upset when we lost the House but I figured we had the senate and Rs in the house weren’t helping Trump much anyway.
And I thought the dems will harass Trump with some nonsense but I NEVER thought they would do all this.

Senate acquittal has been a foregone conclusion, just like it was a foregone conclusion that Trump would be impeached ever since the democrats retook control of the House.
The democrats strategy since last fall has been twofold. First, impeach Trump as quickly as possible, which meant not allowing any objections to the scope of the democrats demands to be heard in court, so that the democrats could tell their base before the primaries that Trump has been “impeached forever.” Second, stall the Senate trial as long as possible, hopefully putting off the acquittal until after the election, while courts decide challenges to the democrat’s document and testimony demands.
IOW, cut off the fishing expedition. The liberals strategy was clearly to stretch it out as long as possible to maximize damage and hinder governing.

When the Right fails at something they ask what they did wrong. When the Left fails they double down until they bust and are resurrected by some fools. The question, though, is whether the American People have woken up.

I couldn’t agree more. Giving them this time is asking for shenanigans to make the acquittal seem less important than it is. I can’t understand why the President would go to the House for the State of the Union before his acquittal or for that matter at all.

IMHO the treasonous Mueller prolonged the Russia, Russia, Russia investigation through the mid-terms to tilt the house Dem.

I live on the south shore and that whole side is mostly WOPs like me with Irish and other ethnic whites.
We went 57 percent Trump.
If you take out the north shore side, which is obama’s people, the south shore probably voted 80 percent Trump.

After his appearance before Congress, I'm not sure Mueller has known whether it's Tuesday or August for about 4 years now. Something of a pity to watch someone who allegedly knew what was going on lose it in such a public forum.
