I can't understand why the nations of Western and Central Europe can't have a relationship like the one that the US and Canada have.

Billions and billions of dollars worth of goods and services pass over our common border...in both directions...every day.Citizens of both countries can pass very quickly and easily over that border...in both directions.With one exception it's taken me 2 minutes or less each of the dozens of times I've crossed it.

OTOH,no citizen of either country has an intrinsic right to enter...let alone live in...the other.Decisions of Canadian courts aren't influenced by the US and decisions of our courts aren't influenced by Canada.

Friendly,peaceful relations (not a single soldiers stationed on either side of our 4,500 mile long border),vigorous trade....yet the absolute sovereignty of both nations is recognized and respected.

It would require the assent of both Congress and Virginia, so I doubt it.
