These are difficult days for the elites caricatured as Davos men. But one might not know it reading the strident remarks coming out of the World Economic Forum last week. Perhaps the globe-trotters in Switzerland ought to ponder what has run amok with todays version of globalism, and there are lessons from history that may help them.
Salesforce chairman and co-CEO Marc Benioff said on Tuesday that capitalism as we have known it is dead, and this obsession that we have with maximizing profits for shareholders alone has led to incredible inequality and a planetary emergency. This is in keeping with the Business Roundtables recent advocacy for stakeholder capitalism, which aims to make customers, suppliers, vendors, and so on equal with shareholders. Stakeholder capitalism is supposed to be the natural successor to the model of maximizing shareholder value.
The call for corporate advocacy comes as nationalism and populism are emerging across the West, with events such as Brexit and Donald Trumps 2016 triumph. This dichotomy suggests that citizens of Western democracies face a choice between a globalist economic and political orderof which stakeholder advocacy is a partand a retreat into mercantilism, nativism and cultural stasis.
This is a false choice. The advent of stakeholder capitalism as a replacement for shareholder value is in many ways a microcosm of the current globalist project, and its flaws illustrate the tension between todays globalism and nationalism. But it also shows how to resolve them.
Globalism touts the supremacy of supranational bodies and accordsthe United Nations, the Paris climate agreement and the like. The officials who enter into these pacts often arent accountable to those who are governed by such arrangements. This amounts to a technocratic and anti-democratic rule by elites who think they know better

eff that
“Stakeholders” = Malicious busybodies who want to control something that doesn’t belong to them and was built by other peoples’ blood sweat and tears without ever risking their own resources. They remind me of the a$$holes who move in next to a hog farm and then try to put it out of business because they don’t like the smell.
Capitalism without Nationalism is suicide.
Exactly!
They call themselves the technocratic elites in technocracy.
The following line made me laugh too,
“Salesforce chairman and co-CEO Marc Benioff said on Tuesday that capitalism as we have known it is dead, and this obsession that we have with maximizing profits for shareholders alone has led to incredible inequality and a planetary emergency.”
So because Capitalism works for countries, companies, people, etc... that engage in it we must eliminate it? And what embrace what does not work?
What is even more funny is that none of these so called “elite” are willing to give up most of their money that they earned for a Socialist or Communist state. They are just liars, frauds and fake people.
Screw that crap!
And this is something new? This has been going on since the beginning of the modern era.
The CEO of a company that sells software for managing sales activities decries capitalism.
Irony: The Mark of Quality Literature
Apparently the next step up the ladder after “Captain of Industry” is “Commisar”.
Globalism is being rejected by the voters, and the Globalist Deep state won't surrender or give up.
Why would they? It's not like they've been pursing it for our benefit.
Big business and big government go hand in hand...............
The goal of capitalism is to perpetuate itself. Therefore it must provide a sustainable service at a sustainable price for seller and buyer.
America and Western Europe need to learn from The Soviets and Chicoms. In these idyllic utopias have No pollution

Yep.
H-1B started in 1990 so is that the beginning of the modern era?
Welcome to the 21st Century version of the medieval “Lord’s Land”... a neo-feudalism!
We shall be serfs serving our global “lords.” Every aspect of our dystopian lives rationed, regulated and controlled! All to “save” the planet. #SerpentLies
Through all of history all tyranny has been imposed for the “common good” and the “safety” of the people! The body count is HUGE and counting!!!
