Several Senate Democrats are privately discussing the possibility of calling Republicans’ bluff on witnesses, weighing an unusual trade in President Trump’s impeachment trial: the testimony of Hunter Biden for the testimony of a key administration official.
Publicly, most Democrats have scoffed at the growing GOP clamor to hear former vice president Joe Biden’s son testify, dismissing him as irrelevant to the charges against Trump and accusing Republicans of trying to distract from the allegations against the president.
But behind closed doors, a small group of Democratic senators and aides has begun to question that logic, sounding out colleagues on whether to back a witness deal that could lead to testimony from former national security adviser John Bolton or other administration officials with possible firsthand knowledge of the Ukraine controversy, according to multiple Democratic officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the private discussions.
These Democrats said they believe having Hunter - or possibly Joe Biden - testify could backfire on Trump and the GOP, giving Biden and the party a platform to strike back and paint Republicans and the White House as obsessed with trying to damage one of Trump’s 2020 presidential rivals.

Bolton got fired for being too militaristic for Trump. It’s hard to believe he’d side with the Dems in revenge. But I’d rather not have to take that chance.
In any event, if Hunter looks corrupt (but I’d bet he’d just take the Fifth forever), Trump’s reason for asking about 2016 is verified.
A trap, the rats were always willing to make this “deal”. Hunter takes the 5th and the rats get their assassin witness (es) and this leads to a never ending sh*t show. Trump is the target and F Bolton for teeing this up.

The witnesses thing was pretty much dead until Bolton shot his mouth off and volunteered to testify a few days before the trial and brought it back to life. It was one of the few things that could and Bolton knew exactly what he was doing. Therefore I think he’s planning on screw us but good.

NEVER !!! call a witness who’s exact testimony you do not know beforehand. The so-called Perry Mason” moment is a TV trope that rarely ever happens in real life. It’s way too dangerous to have either Bolton or Hunter Biden testify. (Just my opinion - but it’s not an unfounded opinion.)

Why does anyone want to hear Hunter Biden lying in the Senate where he’s not even on trial?
I want to see him in a federal courtroom where he stand a good chance of going to jail.

I totally agree: Bolton is a disgruntled fired employee, has a massive ego and is completely unpredictable. NO BOLTON TESTIMONY!!!
We don’t need deadbeat dad coke-snorting Hunter as a witness. Trading Hunter for Bolton could end up being a complete disaster. Of course, you NEVER call a witness unless you’re 100% sure of what he/she is going to say.

There is no trade to be made here. Hunter Biden is a rebuttal witness, if the Trump defense team even wants to call him (and I’m not totally sure it’s a good idea to call him).
I don’t want Hunter Biden. Let’s get Joe Biden and Barack Obama.
