If Sanders had his way, he’d fundamentally change the character of the country. The most substantively outrageous presidential campaign in American history has some serious chance of success.
Bernie Sanders is leading or near the top of most polls in the first two Democratic nominating states, Iowa and New Hampshire. He could plausibly win both, which would instantly transform the race into a desperate effort to Stop Bernie.
Sanders doesn’t exactly get good press. A lot of the punditry (understandably) wrote him off when Elizabeth Warren eclipsed him in the polls a couple of months ago and he had his health scare. Longer profiles have tended to be fond, while expressing skepticism that Sanders can build out his coalition. But the same people who have spent years worrying about norms — by which they usually mean things President Donald Trump says and tweets — express little alarm about Bernie’s campaign of jaw-dropping radicalism.
If he had his way, he’d fundamentally change the character of the country. He’d make the United States an outlier in the Western world, not in terms of its relatively limited government, but its sweeping activism. A Hellfire missile aimed right at the federal fisc, Sanders would make Barack Obama’s economic agenda look like the work of a moderate Republican.
In foreign affairs, he’d bring to the Oval Office a sympathy for America’s enemies not often heard outside academia or Noam Chomsky reading groups.
He’s the American Jeremy Corbyn, a socialist true believer whose fantastical agenda reflects the dictates of dogma. The difference is that Corbyn effectively promised a return to socialist-imposed stagnation in Britain, whereas Bernie is inviting America to experience it for the first time.

What the Pay to Play Dems know is, Bernie is a True Believer. And, his followers are True Believers. The recent video released by Project Veritas is just the tip of the Iceberg.
The other Dems are POSERS. They are in gov’t for their own personal enrichment. Gov’t is a sure way for connivers with no talent and no marketable skill to enrich themselves.
All they have to do is convince local clueless constituents that they will take care of them (with no intention of ever doing so) and promise their donors they’ll get their money back and then some later.
Which they will definitely do for future donations.
There are two people who threaten this corrupt system. Sanders the Communist. And, Trump the Patriot.
They can handle Bernie the Communist. They cannot deal with Trump the American Patriot.
If Bernie wins it I see a lot of Dems not voting at all in the election.
The sexism charge is a nice brake on his momentum. A Dem can’t win without the ladies. A small dip in turnout there would finish him.
Bernie already had one heart attack a few months ago, although it evidently was a mild one.
I think he’s due for the “big one.”
Then he’ll get to meet Stalin, Lenin, Beria, and all his other idols.

Bern would lock up the bluest of blue states but give away ALL of the purple ones like the Rust Belt and the Intermountain West. Something like 328-210 landslide for Trump, 338-200 if he can finally take MN.

I disagree.
IMVHO the party is done with the Clinton family. Candidate Trump dispatched her on his initial political campaign. Even when she held all the cards, had all the money and was reaching for that historic “first” she couldn’t beat a man who had NEVER run for political office.
She has spent the intervening years blaming everyone but the person in the mirror.
If she had fessed up to not running an aggressive enough campaign, not taking a neophyte seriously enough and loading the blame on her shoulders she might have had enough juice for one more shot. Instead she has come across as the boozy, bitter ex-wife that no one wants to encounter.
Stick a fork in her, she’s done.
The fact that both Bloomberg and Steyer jumped in late is an indication that Granny Pickles is done.
Both men will throw money around but neither one is stupid enough to spend millions if a strong Hillary has a chance at a comeback. No, they are spending their money expecting to be the recipients of the largess of a brokered convention.
In retrospect, if there was one good thing about the eight years of the Kenyan usurpation, it was the death of Hillary’s political career.
Bernie is the quintessential Democrat. Hypocrite, bombastic, lazy, talks instead of does, never held a real job, never owned a successful business, never served in the military, admires the worst kinds of totalitarian governments, impervious to logic or history, relies on government largess for his well being. Yep, Democrat role model.
When going to sleep Bernie, instead of counting sheep, counts the tens of thousands he would like to send to his newly established gulags.
Have you ever noticed he never laughs, he has a cold smile - a true Marxist! A Marxist does not need experience at any sort of work because they are endowed with superior societal ideas of how things should work. He smiles best when he thinks of the concept: PURGE!
Why? You think he would be hard to beat?

You must be from Vermont. I remember in 1985 Bernie was the self appointed Mayor of Stannard, an unincorporated Mountain Hamlet, where he picketed garbage trucks in a one man protest to get recycling.No one in the small hamlet really cared. Too bad they did shut him up back then , we likely wonldn’t have to put up with his leftist crap today.
