Patrick Stewart returns to Star Trek and the role of Jean-Luc Picard in a new CBS streaming show, but the reason it exists at all is, unsurprisingly, political. The liberal actor told Variety this week that Picard is me responding to the world of Brexit and Trump. He also said that the United States (under Trump) and Britain (under Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson) are completely f****d.
Talking to Varietys Daniel Holloway, Stewart explained why his character is getting a revival:
Trump seemed to be responsible for a lot of old TV shows coming back. In 2018, the creator of the '80s/'90s sitcom Murphy Brown explained why that show returned: We definitely wouldn't have had the show if Trump hadnt won. She added, We didn't have a motivation do it. We didn't really have the meat or a story. And then when the election happened, I mean, if Hillary had won, we would just be dancing in the streets.
Stewart connected the United States, Britain, Brexit, Trump and Johnson into one political lament:
Im not sure which one of us is in the most trouble, he says of Britain and the United States. I think its actually the U.K. I think were fed, completely fed. He points to studies predicting decades-long economic damage inflicted by the countrys looming withdrawal from the European Union. Of the U.S., he says, There is a time limit to your fed state, which is four years away. He expresses hope that the United States that has given us the Trump administration can change...
But, the actor added, He will likely get reelected..
In November of 2019, Stewart told a French audience that hes embarrassed by Brexit and thinks its a disgrace.

Looks like he's politically like Lenin, as well.
Wow! I was looking forward to this series. Love Star Trek. Can’t stand listening to actors and their political opinions. Not sure I’ll bother watching. All I need is one more liberal sharing their hatred for anything and anyone conservative.
He was a well-known Shakespearean actor back in the day...
Typical elitist prick.
Best role Stewart ever played was as a queer Opera director in “Frazier.” Now I know why.
Data needs to kick his ass
The original Star Trek was a “wagon train to the stars”.
The Next Generation was a “community college faculty meeting”.
You have to pay to watch it. They’d have to pay me to watch it.
Paging mare buttplug. Paging mare buttplug.
My apologies. But you nailed the reason I called it that. :)
Maybe I should have called it “Star Trek for feminists”. :)
O F F S !!!
Don’t these @$$holes have a “Shut your liberal mouth” clause in their contracts?
Whoo hoo! Let’s hear for woke broke joke blokes! Lower ratings!
You moron fudge packer. You just lost at least half the audience. No tv show or movie is good enough to put up with your commie bullsh!t.
After being a lifelong Star Trek fan I will make it a point to NOT see the latest movie.
Well, hes gay, so....
I know. LIKELY? LOL! What cha gonna do picard? Move someplace more better?
[[Its a shame, I used to like Patrick Stewart. Couldnt keep his stupid mouth shut.]]
Ditto- didn’t he play also in fantastic four or soem super hero show? He;s just another in a long line of ‘won’t watch’ now- well done Patrick- Way to show your ignorance, and turn off a lot of fans- Doesn’t matter to him though- He’s made his millions and doesn’t care what us peons think no doubt- but i can tell you a lot of former fans will now not watch his reruns, or buy/rent videos, and he and his family won’t rake in nearly what they could have as a result
Utter cognitive dissonance. Stewart turns 80 this year and is still living in a total fantasy world where everything is backwards and upside down. If I were him, I’d get myself right with the Lord, because He’s not going to be very impressed.
