Over the next few days, it will be hard to escape footage of huge crowds gathering in Iranian cities to mourn the death of Qasem Soleimani, the Iranian general killed by a U.S. drone strike. For anyone watching, I have one piece of advice: Dont take what youre seeing at face value.
This past November, thousands of Iranians took to the streets across the country to protest against the regime, in the biggest challenge to the clerical rule in 40 years. According to Reuters, more than 1,500 people were killed by security forces, including units of Soleimanis Revolutionary Guard, and at least 7,000 have been arrested. The Internet was shut down for five days. Tehran has yet to release official figures of its own, which suggests the death toll may have been even higher.
The protesters had harsh words for Soleimani and his foreign adventures, chanting against Irans involvement in Syria and its support of Hezbollah. That came as a shock to the regime, which portrays Soleimani as Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameneis adopted son.
Of course, people across the political divide are concerned about war. Nobody wants President Trump to bomb Irans cultural or historical sites as he threatened in a tweet on Saturday. I myself denounced the tweet on Fox News on Sunday.
But what to make of the crowds of flag-waving mourners streaming across TV screens? Without doubt, Soleimani had support among hard-liners and regime loyalists. The regime is not taking any chances, though. In the city of Ahvaz, where large numbers of people turned out to mourn Soleimani, the government has forced students and officials to attend. It provided free transport and ordered shops to shut down.

FROM THE AUTHOR:
According to videos sent to me by people inside the country, the authorities are making little kids write essays praising the fallen commander. First-graders who didnt know how to write were encouraged to cry for Soleimani.
Some Iranians have compared the funeral services for Soleimani to those held for the Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich, the Butcher of Prague, killed by Allied agents during World War II.
The great majority of those people would much rather be at a Trump rally.
You have to feel for a proud people with a remarkable culture and history being humiliated by their own government.
Yeah, only leftists protestors can destroy cultural or historical sites...
Are you sure this was in the Washington Post?
A big amen to that.
Love our Prez, but gotta agree with the author re leaving the cultural/historical sites alone.
Use those ‘52’ he mentioned to take the top 52 despots enslaving that nation (collateral acolytes are a bonus).
If that doesn’t do it, the next 52 .. reload & repeat til Persia is free.

TIME TO DISENGAGE
Sadly, nobody has informed the MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX (MI) or the NEOCON WARHAWKS in DC.
There may be a way to let them know how we feel BEFORE the next national election on 11/3/2020. It may be too late if we wait for that.

YOUR TURN...before YOUR kids (boys & now girls) wind up in another no-win exercise in madness in the blood soaked sandbox called the Middle East where warring tribes have been killing one another since forever and the only “winners” are the owners of the MI. Killing Soleimani Was The Right Move, And Shows Precisely Why Its Time To Leave Iraq
Christopher Bedford, The Federalist
Rather than ask how to whip Iran, we should be wondering if our blood and treasure is better served in defending against the real threats to our homeland. Unending American war in the Middle East drains our coffers, military strength, and political will, all to the glory of Moscow and our true enemies in Beijing. Meanwhile, foreign policy hawks in Washington are terrified Russia might follow our lead, as they have in Syria. Since his inauguration, President Donald Trump has killed the leader of ISIS, and now the Iranian general responsible for hundreds of American dead. Hes done a great deal to clean up the mess his predecessors left him in Iraq and Syria. Now it is time to disengage.

Trump said today that the targets would all be legal under international law.
This is how Iraqi’s responded when Soleimani was dispatched

Is that pronounced Salami or Salmonella?
At this point, what difference does it make, they are both dead meat.
I studied art all through school, grades 1 - 12 and majored in art in college. Also I studied psychology, education, history, jewelry making, and foreign languages. All of these have come in very handy in my almost 70 years. I truly appreciate all art, even if dedicated to a false god. Or a ideology that I don’t agree with. Like when the Taliban blew up those huge rock sculptures.
But human life is even more precious than art works.
And, yes, you can easily make a living doing art. No problem.
Oh yes Hillary would say that! LOL At this point what difference does it make.
So thankful she isn’t president! YIKES
Some folks who didn’t go to the funeral stampede were shot. That improves attendance.
Made me smile. :) Have you seen the cream of the crop of the Iranian Air Force yet?
appears to be refurbished no less.

So if the Mullahs hide their nuclear arsenals or chemical weapons in or under some cultural site you think we should just say thats okay, we cant go there because someone built the thing years ago and that is worth more to humanity than......humanity
