You don’t just become an Army Lieutenant by enlisting, you have to have some fortitude, education, drive, and determination. That should count for something, but does not in the immigration process.

What part of this priviledge (to be enlisted in the US Army....AND being allowed to become an Army Lt) he was GIVEN, are you not understanding?

His mom is an illegal.

What are you saying should be ‘accounted for’, in her case?

He’s not breaking any laws. His mother is. He’s a good example of a citizen who has done well. His mom....not so much.

Re: There needs to be a trusted sponsor option for my wife.

Does that mean you are NOT a trusted sponsor option?

Anyway, she can get a six month tourist visa every year as long as she can prove financial ability for six months.

Or, she can get a student visa for two years at the cheapest junior college near your house.

At first glance, my instinct says you have not told us the full story about your wife’s immigration case.

“A country that was founded on immigrants should be welcoming to my mother, who her whole life has been an outstanding citizen.”

My family came here as British subjects and then fought in bloody battles to become new American citizens. That is not what could be called "founded on immigrants."

Eh. The headline speaks to his disrespect for the law.

I think we’re done here.

Being an Army officer he should be familiar with the importance of adherence to the law. Sorry,no sympathy from me...just as I'd expect no sympathy from a citizen of a country in which *I* had been living illegally.

Every nation on earth has the sovereign right to determine its own citizenship and residency laws...and the US is no different.

What exactly was he given? He wasn’t given shit (well maybe US citizenship), he earned a commission in the US Army, that should count for something.

IMHO is you have a US Citizen that gives to his country he should be allowed to sponsor immigration with consideration. But there is no difference between a commissioned Army officer trying to sponsor an immigrant and an anchor baby sponsoring one. An

Earning a commission in the US Army is a privilege, FRiend.

He CERTAINLY WAS given something!!

Again.....please tell us what this "something" - that you keep mentioning - should account for?

Especially when it comes to his law breaking mom.

“She gave the US an Army officer. I should think that would be more than enough to mitigate the circumstances.”

Nope. Nada. Zero points should be awarded to her for the offspring being in the military.

I’ve a son who will most likely will go to live in the PI because it will probably be easier than getting his beloved into this country.

You can thank all the ILLEGALS and all of the OPPORTUNITIES and WELFARE benefits they’ve used up over the decades. Not to mention the sexual crimes, murders, robberies, death by accident and the Third World sexual abuse they seem to enjoy.

If I can understand, and accept the logic of the situation and I will have a son living out of this country then another grown-up should be able to curb his emotions.

If I had my way every single and I do mean EVERY ILLEGAL would be deported.

He wasn’t given shit (well maybe US citizenship)....

Unbelievable.

That's a LOT more than s#!t....and, again, a priviledge.

Not to mention all of the other benefits he was surely given, as a dreamer....free education, healthcare, welfare, housing, etc., etc.

Are you sure you're on the right forum?

31 years and couldn’t bother to become a legal resident? Where’s the outrage? Right here bubba! I have outrage for all those, wherever they come from that feel it’s OK to skip in front of the line bypassing everyone following the rules and our laws!

It is harder than it should be. My son’s fiancé is Canadian. He has been working on getting her marriage visa straight for a year and a half now.

In today’s active duty Army, you don’t get five years to be a butterbar. If you’re half-way competent, you’d make 1st Lt. within 18 to 30 months....otherwise you’re shown the door.

Reserves? There’s a little bit of lee way but not much. Again, making it to 1st Lt. shouldn’t be that much of a challenge unless you’re a total screw up.
