Pope Francis has apologized after he appeared to lose his cool when a woman violently grabbed his hand while he greeted pilgrims at the Vatican on New Year’s Eve.
A video that went viral on Twitter showed an unidentified woman abruptly grabbing Francis’ hand from behind a barrier and yanking him towards her just after he reached out to greet a child during a visit to the Vatican’s nativity scene on Tuesday night.
It seemed like the woman would not release Francis’ hand, so the pontiff slapped her hand before pulling his free. Frowning in anger, he turned and strode away.

Yea, that’s right.
If he really wanted to deal with it in true Italian fashion he would have blessed her, kissed her cheeks, and gave her a warm grandfatherly smile and walked away.
And then have his paid goons deal with her in the seclusion of a nice alley . . . /NO SARC
Thank you. I think you’d probably agree with me that his language was a big mistake. It’s hard to fathom him thinking those words would reflect on the church well, him being the Pope.
It’s a mess.
I don’t have a problem with him being touched. I agree with your take about touching, but touching doesn’t translate well with what this woman actually did.
I don’t think she gave enough thought to her actions. She’s probably a much better person than this reflects. Sorry it turned out this way for her.
I just hope she can understand on some level that she also went overboard.

The Asian people have long memories. The question is, how did they perceive the pope’s action. For one thing, he caused that woman to “lose face.” You could see her expression as he walked away from him.
She looked like she might be a Filipina, and if so; the pope will be about as popular in the Philippines as the Beatles at an Imelda Marcos birthday party.
That really needs to be clarified. From listening to tape several times, I did not hear that, only “mano! mano!”
Perhaps he has a lot of threats on his life and gets spooked easily. I’m not a Francis lover, he has been a disappointment but in these days there’s a lot of kooks out there.

She seemed to like him and perhaps wanted to greet him. The expression on her face turned from pleasant to surprised/disappointed as soon as he slapped her hand.
I don’t think she had bad intentions.
He is an impatient, arrogant SOB and should find another field of work.
