The Islamic Republic of Iran, facing demonstrations at home that threaten its very existence and more in Iraq that threaten that country’s Shi’ite proxy government, is resorting to a tested and true strategy. Fox News reports that “crowds of angry Iraqis protesting America’s recent airstrikes against an Iran-backed militia have laid siege to the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad Tuesday, chanting ‘Down, Down USA!’ and storming through a main gate, prompting troops to fire back tear gas in response.”
President Trump tweeted: “Iran killed an American contractor, wounding many. We strongly responded, and always will. Now Iran is orchestrating an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Iraq. They will be held fully responsible. In addition, we expect Iraq to use its forces to protect the Embassy, and so notified!”
Whether the pro-Iranian Shi’ite regime will take any serious steps to protect the embassy is an open question, and the Iranian mullahs may be assuming that Trump will talk tough and then let the whole thing blow over. After all, as The Complete Infidel’s Guide to Iran explains in detail, there is a significant precedent for this that occurred right at the time the Islamic Republic was founded.

Some the problems with the world’s bullies lies with the Democrats and the news media always trying to destroy our president. Their latest gambit was to impeach PDT. It is not far-fetched to think this action caused our enemies to think Trump is finished and can be forced into stupid actions - yes, much like Jimmy Carter.

Possibly, but our SEAL's are the baddest Spec-Ops in the world and wouldn't go in unless their intelligence people (also SEAL,s) determine a successful operation and extract. As I said above in this thread, the first operation should be with our bunker busting bombs. We have them to go deep enough, or at least close off any openings and air supply vents. They all die.
We could kill Iran's entire military machine in 36 hours if the President gave the word (he has the authority under Congressional law). Do you have any idea what an Aegis surface ship or a Trident sub is capable of, and that's leaving out the power of our Air Force? I do.
The War Powers Resolution requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30-day withdrawal period, without a Congressional authorization for use of military force.
Bottom line: it authorizes the President to conduct war for 60 days without Congress declaring War. I'm not fond of it, but since weasels in Congress gave up their duty of declaring war, I'm good with SOME presidents fighting the good fight. Down side is like Clinton fighting in the Balkans, and W going into Iraq to save Kuwait oil.
Now thinking about it, I don't recall Congress declaring war on Aftganiscrap or Iraq. Could be wrong.

I concur completely. He needs a proportional response that hurts the mullahs but does not let the perpetual warmongers in the deep state get us into yet another clusterf$&k war. They promised quick victories in Afghanistan and Iraq and twenty years later we are still in these sh$t holes fighting with kid gloves under ROE’s that are as absurd as they were in Vietnam. It’s time for Trump to call in the NSC and joint chiefs and say in 30 days give me a realistic plan for victory and bringing troops home. No military option is off the table. If you can’t we are pulling out of these meat grinders immediately. Here’s your chance generals, you have Carter blanch, so put up or shut up, same to you CIA,DIA, and NSA.
40 years ago warfare and seal training was strictly post jungle stuff. Their training in the past two decades has been focused now on dealing with middle east terrain and jihadis.

I remember when Muammar Gaddafi stepped on some toes with a nightclub bombing in Germany in 1986. Reagan sent in eighteen F-111 fighter/bombers supported by four EF-111 electronic countermeasure aircraft, to hit targets in Libya to include dissecting the block MG’s house was on. Something about the wrath of God, I think. He got pretty quiet after that.
