Trump says Iran 'will pay a very BIG PRICE' after US embassy in Baghdad was attacked by pro-Tehran mob forcing Pentagon to deploy 100 Marines in Chinooks to reinforce the compound
The Daily Mail ^ | December 31st, 2019 | Unattributed

Donald Trump announced that the US embassy in Baghdad is safe after some 6,000 pro-Iran militia fighters stormed the compound on Tuesday, set walls ablaze and chanted 'Death to America!' in a violent retaliation for American air strikes.

The president doubled down in his warning to Iran, saying their government will be held 'fully responsible' for the attack that forced the Pentagon to send 100 Marines as reinforcements to the Iraqi embassy.

'The U.S. Embassy in Iraq is, & has been for hours, SAFE! Many of our great Warfighters, together with the most lethal military equipment in the world, was immediately rushed to the site. Thank you to the President & Prime Minister of Iraq for their rapid response upon request,' Trump tweeted Tuesday evening.

'Iran will be held fully responsible for lives lost, or damage incurred, at any of our facilities. They will pay a very BIG PRICE! This is not a Warning, it is a Threat. Happy New Year!' he added.

In a third tweet he quipped 'The Anti-Bengahzi!' The post was an effort to distinguish his administration's response to that of the Obama administration in the 2012 attack on a diplomatic compound in Libya that left four Americans dead. The tweet, which had a spelling error, was deleted soon after.

The Embassy is considered sovereign US territory by all world standards. Which is why folks seek sanctuary in embassy’s. The invasion of said premises is considered a hostile act against the occupiers country. Iraqi forces curb the violence or it is on. We own the air and Apaches ain’t no joke. This ain’t Benghazi or Somolia. Oh and DJT calls the ball not Odumshit.

” Is this just U.S. “deep state” propaganda? “

I heard the same sh!t back in 2002-2003 when I said the invasion of Iraq would be a disaster. I’ll remain a “skeptic” as long as I can see through the B.S. propaganda that dominates our media.

“He makes it sound like Iran invaded Iraq and stormed the U.S. embassy. “

“Iran organizes and supplies these Iraqi “militias”. Many are the same as those who killed 4,000 US military in Iraq with roadside bombs”

It is Iran’s policy to establish surrogate Shi’ite militias in countries around the region, to subvert them, and eventually take over. They did it first with Hizbollah (The Party of Allah) in Lebanon; and are very far advanced in doing that in Iraq and Syria as well.

The very militia at issue here (Kata’ib Hizbollah - the Hizbollah Brigades) has long been directly paid and commanded by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps’ (IRGC) Quds Force - their foreign Legion of local surrogate militias, all commanded by IRGC Major General Qassim Suleimani.

Kata’ib Hizbollah members are paid full time salaries by Iran, and trained by Iranian Military and IRGC personnel. They were used early after the American liberation of Iraq from the Ba’ath Party, as death squads to assassinate former Ba’ath Party war criminals, and political rivals hostile to Iran’s interests (as well as anyone threatening the criminal rackets they used for fundraising).

Later, Kata’ib Hizbollah members were trained and organized into more regular military units, and began being used to attack American occupation forces with snipers, IEDs, mortars and rockets.

When Iran got heavily involved in supporting the Assad Regime in Syria’s civil war, Kata’ib Hizbollah along with Iran’s other surrogate militias around the region took another big step in developing into an openly standing conventional military force, deploying Battalion and Brigade-sized formations for combat operations in Syria (some are still there today).

The Kata’ib Hizbollah and several other Iranian controlled militias within Iraq received a major boost in official recognition/acceptance during the great war against ISIS (the battle of Mosul was the biggest urban battle since Stalingrad, which was the deadliest battle in all of human history). During the war against ISIS, Iran’s surrogate militias were accepted with other militias (like Kurds) as auxiliary forces to the Government called Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, or Hashd al Shaabi), like National Guard forces, or Police auxiliaries or volunteer Firemen might be here.

Although Kata’ib Hizbollah recruits among Iraqi Shi’ites, and has Iraqi citizens in high leadership positions, they take orders, receive most of their pay and weapons, and owe their loyalty to Iran’s IRGC, despite their semi-official status.

Qais al Khazali, a (perhaps now the senior) Kata’ib Hizbollah commander was outside of the American Embassy with the Kata’ib Hizbollah members who were assaulting it. He and his brother Laith were both captured by American forces and incarcerated at Camp Bucca, for their taking (and killing) of American and British hostages (including Peter Moore, who was later exchanged for the release of of the the Khazali brothers).

You might want to ask yourself why they carried the Kataeb Hezbollah flag into the embassy grounds.

Dozens of them.

One USMC rifle squad was probably more than enough to defend the embassy against these slimeball cowards, but 100 of em, armed to the teeth and on full alert pretty much guarantees there’ll be no Odongo/PIAPS-type “Benghazi event” taking place there.

No offense to the Marines, but the two Apache helicopters hovering over the embassy are quite threatening as well.

I don’t think Iran (or Iraq) got the result they were hoping for with this.... we are sending additional troops to the region so Trump will clearly not back down. He put the Iraqi government on notice and will continue the strangling sanctions on Iran and potentially worse.

There are no good answers to the quagmire or the Iran problem, but all in all they seemed to play this about as well as they could.

*** He makes it sound like Iran invaded Iraq and stormed the U.S. embassy.
Some of us ain’t buying that nonsense. ***

Thank you for showing common sense. Iraq has been telling the US they can’t have their military there. Their Parliament passed a resolution to that effect. Thousands of Iraqis have died due to US pretend WMD war. Birth defects in areas contaminated by US weapons are at levels unheard of there. Iraqis died in our latest dust up.

I just can’t imagine why Iraqis would not embrace us there. Yes, it must be Iranians.

My prayer for 2020 would be all deceptions and untruths to be revealed, and the scales fall from each person’s eyes.

Obama seems to want war with Iran. These wars simply weaken the United States and so play right into the Democrats hands.

"This wasn’t a “militia” that attacked the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. It was an unruly mob of Iraqis"

It was in fact Kata'ib Hizbollah personnel in the Baghdad area, mustered and ordered to duty there, with their well known chain of command on hand leading them. Some of them wore their uniforms (which tend to not be very uniform) while most most were in civilian clothes. That is typical to how they operate, including at the height of combat operations against ISIS - not sticklers for dress. They really all get in uniform just for ceremonies.

They clearly carried their flags with them. This demonstration was a reaction to airstrikes on Kata'ib Hizbollah bases. Pretty much only Kata'ib Hizbollah and their pro-Iranian allies care about that. Most Iraqis are more than happy to see them get blown up.

One Kata'ib Hizbollah unit patch is visible, under the hand in the foreground (lower left) holding the turquise-colored phone.

A bunch or inbred jackasses, standing around in a cluster. Basically, they had all assembled for funerals today for their members killed in the airstrikes, and got worked up. They are emotional people.

If they are thinking another Iran hostage event, they are sadly mistaken.

We have a president with manhood for a change.

It appears you know who did storm our U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Please, if you know, tell me who it was.
