Saddam Hussein was the only thing that kept Iraq stable. The U.S. went in and destroyed that, letting every mutant crawl out of its hole to turn the place into a dump.
Think of him like the Daley family in Chicago.
You are very right.

The two greatest threats to radical Islam were the Shah of Iran and Saddam Hussein. Carter got rid of the Shah, and George W. Bush got rid of Saddam.
Do the Islamists have some kind of meritorious service award? If so, Carter and W should each get one.
Iraq wasn’t all that stable even under Saddam. Why else did he need to gas the Kurds, flood the Marsh Arabs, etc.?
I found this:

We had too when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and threatened Saudi Arabia, and all subsequent actions in Iraq were really follow ups to the initial Gulf War.
We should have used low-yield theater nukes on Bagdad, Tehran, Islamabad, Kabul, Mecca, and Medina on 9/12/01.
We would have been doing the muslim world AND the rest of the world, and ourselves a big favor.
Hah, your right. He was basically was the mayor Dailey of Iraq. Corrupt, Authoritarian... but he made the L train run on time.
