Hiker, 28, is killed when 200-foot redwood falls on top of him on national park dirt trail
Subhradeep Dutta, 28, of Edina, Minnesota, was hiking at Muir National Woods Monument north of San Francisco with two other people Tuesday.
Five giant redwood trees suddenly fell while the trio were on a marked dirt trail about 4.30pm, including a 200-foot tree that struck Dutta. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A female hiker also was injured by falling debris and treated at a nearby hospital. A second man was not hurt The trees may have fallen due to wet ground that became soaked after a series of winter storms hit the area in recent weeks, say authorities
Subhradeep Dutta, who is from Edina, Minnesota, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was struck by the tree about 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday, confirmed the Marin County coroner's office and a park spokesman.

I lived there in the late 50’-early 60’s. Tampa Bay area Hillsborough county.
Back there was no fishing license for salt water, and no rules! You could spear, snag, harpoon, net, shoot, or dyno mite fish with no limits.
Everyone carried a rifle in their boat to shoot sharks, none were ever released alive, and there were far fewer shark attacks back then.
Was pretty good hunting around Tampa in the 50’s for squirrel, rabbit, ducks, and quail. I shot a mountain lion there but we never found it, tracked the blood for about a mile in a orange grove.
What really happened. Gov’t covering it up. A speeder bike hit the redwood and knocked it over.

Rye whiskey,Rye whiskey,Rye whiskey I cry
If a tree don’t fall on me I’ll live ‘til I die
“The trees may have fallen due to wet ground...”
See, it’s that wet ground again Jim. They will ban it in Virginia.
“what possible benefit was derived from this mans death...?”
Perhaps more than from your entire life.
I’m just saying. . .
Oh please. I don't resort to it, but I DO hear that all the time from the Bible Thumpers when asked why such things as that young's man's death, babies deaths, the Holocaust, ad nauseum. It's the Christian version of "It is Allah's will!".
He MIGHT have some surprises for you--all good ones I hope.
NO kidding. What a story!
Do you remember when Lee Trevino was playing in a tournament and as he was swinging his CLUB was hit by lighting? That's another wow story.
Big old trees + violent storms + people = recipe for a catastrophe.
.;)
Hey, he even blinded Pau and then there’s Joni, the quadriplegic that paints with a brush in her mouth.
Wrong place, wrong time,
In hurricanes here in Florida, the wild turkeys come out of the woods and stay in the open during the storm, getting quite wet on the surface [beneath those thick layers of feathers they’re quite dry], and for that reason people think they are stupid enough to drown ... but I have read many reports of such people slain by falling trees or struck by lightning on the golf course or while boating, yet in all my walks in the aftermath of storms, I have yet to find a wild turkey squashed under a fallen log, or fried in anything but a pot.
LumberJacks play a game where the LJ would put a stake out where the tree would land and then start Felling with the Axe with the goal of Driving the Stake into the ground.
That’s pretty good shooting.
any relation to Super Dave???
anybody hear it fall???
The evidence is no
Had the dead guy heard it he could have fled
The evidence is that if a tree falls near you in the forest, you can’t hear it
i guess that settles that then
Not Me, Batteries need replacement in the Hearing Aids. Savannah was Born Deaf and while She is good at Lip Reading however trees don’t have Lips. Molly has been barking since school let out for Christmas. Looking out the Windows She has a full Menu from Hummingbirds to Dogs and Kids.
I’ve heard that. It’s amazing what they could do.
I saw a video where a lumberjack felled a tree and it fell within 2 inches of where he wanted it to. It was about 36’ diameter. Wow.
Another video showed a tree going right between two houses with little space to spare.
Topping out the big trees was also amazing to see.
