The Democratic National Committee raised the bar on Friday for the next presidential debate. If candidates want to appear on the stage January 14, they will need to prove higher poll numbers, and more donors, than at any time throughout this election cycle.
It will be the first debate of 2020 and the final one before the Iowa Caucuses.
Candidates must reach 5% in at least four polls, or 7% in two polls in the early-voting states - Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina or Nevada. The polls need to have taken place between November 14 and January 10. The campaigns also must have 225,000 unique donors.
The tougher requirements are likely to exclude candidates who failed to meet them for Thursday's debate, including Cory Booker and Julián Castro, and potentially some who qualified for it. Candidates needed to reach 4% in the polls and have 200,000 unique donors.

Shouldn’t certain protected groups be given additional IQ points to compensate for the patriarchy, or something?
Isn’t that how college admissions work? And we all know that college is just like the real world...
You really know how to open a big door... 8^)
They need affirmative action so even less qualified candidates feel better about themselves....and still lose.
I’m not sure that would be fair.
If San Fran Nan with a 57 can be Speaker of the House, it would seem rather inequitable that they would demand an 80.
Id rather be ruled by Black Friday shoppers than any of the dem clowns.
My take about Amy is that she thinks she is better than everybody else. There is some real arrogance bottled up in this lady..
Requiring an IQ above 80?
Now your messing with basic fairness.
These people have more debates than Hollyweird has award shows. And they’re about as meaningful.
Yep! I also do not want her as nominee. Her fake midwestern charm may hurt us in the states we need.
That miserable creep.
It's all about TV ratings. Dems are afraid Ayers would "bomb."
My take about Amy is that she thinks she is better than everybody else. There is some real arrogance bottled up in this lady.
That is true for all candidates for president.
Bada bing, bada boom!
They just want Biden gone and time for voters to focus on someone else. They are running out of time with Trump looking good to many voters.
Im think we may see a Biden-Klobuchar ticket.
Wasnt true for Pat Paulsen.
Her attitude my fly in the bigger midwestern cities, but not in the smaller metro areas...
OK. We’ll drop the fact that my life has gotten exceedingly boring and my Big Thrill is coming up with a great quip on FR.
And you took even THAT away from me.
How do you live with yourself?
JK Have a great weekend FRiend! :)
Translation: They have to pass a fifth grade civics test followed by a third grade arithmetic test.
