It's too soon to predict that the Democrats will go the way of the Whigs, but the oldest political party in the world is tripping over its own doctrines; making a public spectacle of its inability to coherently sponsor debates; riven by ideological fissures that seem to be widening; driving away two bedrock constituencies, the white working class and black voters; and hitching itself to a doomed impeachment effort that could cost it dearly next November.
It's a great time to be alive if you are a Republican!
Consider the forthcoming presidential debates.
Next Thursday's scheduled debate is being boycotted by all its candidates because the food service provider at the host institution, Loyola Marymount University — itself a second choice venue after UCLA was chosen and rejected because of a strike there — is experiencing a strike, and the candidates refuse to cross a picket line. DNC chair Tom Perez, a former secretary of labor, is leaning hard on the parties to the strike to settle their differences (do you suspect there may be some quid pro quo promises?), so the squabble between the two constituencies of the Democrats, higher education and left wing labor unions, can end.
But solving that issue is child's play compared to the "diversity" issue facing the debate scheduled for next February:
Nine Democratic presidential candidates have called on the Democratic National Committee to relax its debate standards next year, allowing some lower-polling rivals onto the stage.

Blacks are slowly moving away. Hispanics have always been 50/50. All that remain are angry feminists, Jews (still surprising after all the Jewish people know about the left/fascist/Nazi/communist leanings), gays, and billionaires.
I keep seeing articles that say similar things. There is certainly a lot of wishful thinking in these here parts.

How many times can this be said on FR with a straight face? Not only do they still exist as a party, the last time I checked, they have the House. Call me back when they have control of nothing anymore.

I can’t believe anybody is buying this. If any party is going the way of the whigs, it is the republicans. They can not even mount a fight to save thier own party’s POTUS is the face of a completely partisan attack on the constitution.
I don’t see liberals ever coming around. Swing voters maybe.
The good news is that behind the scenes, the Republican Party is reinventing itself in Trump’s image. However, it will take awhile to see that result, but I believe, assuming Trump serves out his second term, by the time he leaves the White House, the Republican Party will be a far different party than what it is now, and that will be thanks to Trump for making that happen.
I realize what I’m about to say can be misinterpreted as anti-Semitic, but it is not. Instead, it is historically accurate. For reasons possibly lost to time, many though definitely not all, Jewish people are firmly on the political left. Although he renounced his Jewish heritage, Marx had Jewish roots. A number of the prominent early communists were Jewish. It is a strain that runs through much of 19th and 20th Century Jewish life in Europe and the U. S. There is also the post WWII lie that the Nazis were on the right politically due to the nationalist component of their views, but the very name Nazi is an acronym for National SOCIALIST German Workers Party - a purely leftist party.
The Democrats are NOT going to implode.
What is going to happen is that the old guard (Pelosi/Biden/Clintons) is going to be swept off the stage and put out to pasture.
The Democrat Party will then finish its already underway transformation into a European-style socialist party. It will just reload with a bunch of new AOC’s and come back after us.
They are never going away because we are always going to have a constituency in this country that wants socialism. They are young, they are growing, and basically at this point are just waiting for enough of us to die so that we can no longer stand in the way of their plans via elections.

A Ginsburg death and the subsequent decision whether to replace or wait until the election would be about the only political thing that could overshadow impeachment before the 2020 election. The Left will refer to Garland, and Republicans would note that Trump isn’t necessarily in his last term. It’ll be a big battle if it happens.

When Dems talk “diversity, they mean different colors, races and abnormalities - who all have the same mindset.
Used to be diversity meant breadth/wealth of ideas and thought processes.
