If he puts together a goon squad then the answer is yes. They will argue (1) these aren't law abiding citizens or they'd comply with this gun grab law and (2) they fear for their safety so they had to kill every person they saw. There will be plenty of psycho leftist goons who will jump at the chance to sign up for such a jackboot patrol.
As long as Trump is President, he can federalize the National Guard, taking it out of the Governor’s control. Eisenhower and Kennedy did so in the school desegregation period, preventing state level National Guard units from blocking school intervention.

Well, there will be some. I’m old enough to remember the Branch Dividian Massacre and the Ruby Ridge execution. Clinton and Janet Reno (Attorney General) found enough FBI and ATF assassin’s to do their dirty work. But, it’s a different world than then. It won’t take very long for military and law enforcement to understand what’s going town. Not only will many refuse to act upon family, friends, work associates they may very well become their defenders. Not only are the military and LEO’s conservative, the elite combat units are very conservative. And, they tend to be members of families who’s fathers, grandfathers, uncles, have served. Confiscation ain’t gonna happen.
