When the scandal finally broke, it was on the other side of the Atlantic, in a nation that millions of Americans couldnt pinpoint on a map. Congress had made its intentions clear in the form of legislation, but the White House secretly ignored that to illegally pursue its own controversial agenda. Meanwhile, it was revealed that shady foreign-born middlemen were pocketing millions of dollars. The presidents approval rating plummeted, and it looked like an early exit.
I had hoped there would not be discovery of an impeachable offense, the Speaker of the House said at one point. I didnt want to focus on such a divisive subject.

These idiots are so desperate to bring down Trump they dig up Reagan and Nixon. Its so pathetic.
This item is factually incorrect.
The Boland Amendment applied to U.S. intelligence agencies that received appropriations through Congress. The Reagan administration set up the Iran-Contra affair as a National Security Council operation specifically because it was NOT covered under the Boland Amendment. In fact, the Boland Amendment was drafted in the first place because Congress would not approve a total, comprehensive ban on funding the Contras in Nicaragua.
Interestingly, there were serious questions about the constitutionality of the Boland Amendment at the time -- but they were never subject to court challenges because nobody was ever prosecuted for violating it. Congress explicitly made violations of this legislation a civil matter, not a criminal one.
The CIA tried to take out Reagan on Iran Contra.
The Deep State has been working against the GOP since before Nixon.
In their reckless haste to out DJT they uncovered corruption all right, it was just their own corruption.
That’s true but that rag has few readers. They’re not going to influence anybody.

Partisan Media Shills update.
After spending about 10 years off and on in the Reagan Papers to write “Reagan: The American President,” I can say that there was NO evidence whatsoever that Reagan knew about North’s diversion of funds.
North later lied about this. It is a shame so many conservatives still stand by someone who called Reagan a liar on multiple occasions.
Reagan was NOT sufficiently engaged in the oversight of the weapons transfers to Iran; and he WAS engaged in a lot of self-delusion that the exchanges were anything other than “weapons for hostages.” Still, that was not illegal-—it just circumvented his own policy. Reagan got too close to the hostages as individual people, and it ate at him. But he did nothing illegal, at any point. Certainly nothing “impeachable,” despite what that tool Lawrence Walsh-—who pursued Reagan after he left office-—said.
Brady Bunch.
Yeah, when I read the article, I said to myself, "hey wait a minute, there's something wrong here", remembering the point about the Boland Amendment. Explicitly defined by Congress as a civil matter == not a crime or misdemeanor. It was conspiracy to defraud that North was convicted for, and it was reversed on appeal because the objective of the conspiracy wasn't a crime or misdemeanor. At least that's my recollection. So not a good parallel, and furthermore focusing on that now would tend to rehabilitate North and Reagan.
I have no doubt Reagan was behind funding the Contras, and I applaud him for doing so. The Democrats at that time were trying to fund and acting as the propaganda machine for the communist Sandinistas.
You will never see any one with influence over the masses, or school lessons (K-12 or College), talk about the way Democrats since the 60’s have been using taxpayers money to support Communist Radicals the World over.
Check out the history books that should cover the truth of Ted Kennedy.
But how dare we actually defend the countries we have agreements with, or allow any President to bring down any Communist radicle intent on attacking the US anywhere in the World.
I know I really detest communists. I can’t believe Fuchs and others got off easy after giving them the a-bomb. I can’t even watch movies that show the Russians as the heroes fighting against the NAZIS. I always root for the NAZIS.
Agreed, though to be fair, Fuch’s data may have hampered Soviet attempts at creating the a-bomb based on what some Soviet scientists as well as Beria stated (though that would probably be more due to incompetence on Fuch’s part than intentional sabotage).
I’d personally consider Oppenheimer FAR more damaging than Fuchs, due to him literally photocopying the designs, and right now, he’s deemed a model scientist.
What’s even more sad is that Ted Kennedy’s brother, JFK, is probably the only one of the Kennedy brothers who actually ATTEMPTED to fight off Communism (Robert Kennedy’s in the gray area).
