CUBA is the most sustainably developed country in the world, according to a new report launched today. The socialist island outperforms advanced capitalist countries including Britain and the United States, which has subjected Cuba to a punitive six-decades-long economic blockade. The Sustainable Development Index (SDI), designed by anthropologist and author Dr Jason Hickel, calculates its results by dividing a nations human development score, obtained by looking at statistics on life expectancy, health and education, by its ecological overshoot, the extent to which the per capita carbon footprint exceeds Earths natural limits.

“sustainably developed” = backwards, 19th century. undeveloped. So, yes, Cuba wins.
If a country, not just a small community or tribe, lived in a cave, they would have claimed the crown of most “sustainably developed”
I would retitle the award as Most Ass-Backward Country on Earth.
I have to wonder how our Amish rate for sustainable lifestyle.
Id have to think theyre a role model.
Cuba is an amazing antique-car museum.
Yup, the hippie green types even go to Cuba to study their farming techniques. Cuba hasn’t had access to man-made fertilizers and pesticides.
The winters in NK are a bit colder than in Cuba.
It must be all those 52 Chevys they’re still driving around.
I guess this offsets the 50s cars 8 mpg spewing leaded gas in the air. Oh yeah only three actually run.
It looks to me like the left has tipped their hand a bit.
They will only be satisfied when we are all poor & living carbon-free.
Except for the commissars - of course...
I guess it's a simple thing to sustain poverty in Cuba.
Some jacka$$ invents a fake measurement index that validates his own pre-conceived notions. Yup, sounds like leftist “science”.
Post of the year.
Just like Cuba has the best infant mortality in the world, best cancer treatment in the world, best health-care in the world.
OK, sure.
There was no “blockade” of Cuba. Just an embargo of US firms from doing business with them. Almost every other country in the world could trade with them. The abject poverty in Cuba is based on the communist economy and the epic corruption of the rulling class.
Sustainable, yes! every one is eating their shoes
Sure is, They’ve been sustaining those 55 Belairs with soda cans and rivets since Castro came to power.
“What the hell is it with the lefts obsession with communism?”
Easy - they want to lower the West’s standard of living, but fear the reaction of outright seizing wealth/denying opportunity to build it. They are trying to get Americans to voluntarily give up private autos & homes, as well as children.
While many young libs are stupid idiots, they’ve acquired an American taste for material objects in exchange for labor - while they virtue-signal, they (like Dem politicians) want “someone else” to forego the finer things. In terms of children, young Americans are seeing the regrets of many older childless women who’ve lost their chance to start families; they realize that in the end they’ll just be worked to death paying for other peoples’ (usually foreign) children.
You’re right; they are trying to get Westerners to accept a lower standard of living (often while working more hours than before), and it isn’t going to happen - voluntarily.
In the end, it will be used to just push laws to reduce that standard of living. In addition to making car ownership harder (never mind homes), the economy is configured in such a way that single-income families have a VERY hard time. I don’t mean a luxurious lifestyle, just a reasonable safe one (in terms of an area without rampant crime - even in schools).
All of the libs in pictures posted by FReepers look well-fed, clothed, and comfortable; they think “someone else” will be doing without, not them.
What a steaming pile. The idiots who write this type of bilge should be required to live in these places before publishing bovine excrement like this.
+1
Someone needs to ask this moron what is a “fair share of bio-capacity”?
