Topping both listsfor the least traveled and most scenic is Dalton Highway, which ferried an average of just 196 vehicles each day in 2015. (By comparison, the Alaska Highway saw an average of 344 vehicles per day, according to 2016 data.) Other least traveled roads include routes in Nevada, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

160 in Arizona gets you to the Monument Valley and Valley of the Gods turn off. A definite must see.
Just take the car train like HI senator lazy her-oh-no thinks you can. :-)
That reminds me of a story of asking directions in a remote area of southwest NM. we asked an old man directions and he said he had never been out of the county except once “years ago”. He told us to go down a road “until you pass Pete’s place and then look for the road somewhere on the right and stay on that for a fur piece”. LOl
Nope going to Hawai’i by any means would ruin my riddle.
Stay out of the major cities in California and enjoy the most beautiful state in the union. Other than the gas prices, youd never know you were in the land of fruits and nuts.
Even these people didn’t drive any of the roads leading into the wilderness areas of Idaho.
You’re right. Some of those roads can be scary if there is a problem.
There are some pretty good YouTube videos that people have posted of remote roads.
We were driving through a god-awful stretch in southwest Texas and there were signs to beware of rattle snakes if you have a flat tire.
There are so many stories.
Serial killers will love this.
I traveled both the Alaska Hiway and the Dalton Hiway. The Dalton hiway is improved dirt and a great drive. My van carries the “Arctic Circle” badge. The road actually crosses the Yukon river providing more than just a glimpse
I’d bet.
I know of a remote area in Colorado tucked away in the Wet Mountains that not even most of the locals will go because of who lives there. It’s not a huge area but .
That could be. I once hunted near Yellow Pine, the last 60 miles we averaged 13 mph. I told my partner that anyone living here all year had to be a fugitive from justice, it’s at the edge of the River of No Return wilderness which is 3600 square miles of empty wilderness.
And inbred cannibals......
One of the loneliest roads I have ever driven on, especially at night, was State Road 9, running east from Columbus, NM. However, among the few vehicles I saw, several belonged to the Border Patrol. With the Mexican border in some places only a few yards away, I might not have been as lonely as I felt.
When I crossed an intersection, the road seemed to quickly peter out—and then a vehicle flashed its headlights at me. I saw that it was a Border Patrol SUV and realized that if I had proceeded, I would have driven into Mexico.
Surprised they didn’t include US 50 in Nevada. Dubbed the “Lonliest Road in America”, it stretches over 300 miles from Sparks to Ely (going west to east).
My wife drove it and all along those 300 miles there are only 2 towns, Austin and Eureka. They tell you before driving this to make absolutely sure you have a full tank. And water.
At one point, we pulled over and looked both ways. The road went to vanishing points. We were the only ones on the highway.
I had the same feeling when I was the only one visiting the Coleto Creek battlefield in Fannin, Texas. Although the Alamo in San Antonio gets about three million visitors a year, the site of the Coleto Creek battle, a Texas Revolution defeat which cost the lives of more than twice as many Texans as the Alamo, apparently gets few visitors.
Yup. Get east of Fallon and Sand Mountain and it gets real empty real quick.
