Neil Young wants to become a US citizen and vote in the 2020 presidential election.
But the Canadian singer-songwriter says his citizenship application is being held up because he uses marijuana. "When I recently applied for American citizenship, I passed the test. It was a conversation where I was asked many questions. I answered them truthfully and passed," Young said in a statement on his Neil Young Archives website. "Recently however, I have been told that I must do another test, due to my use of marijuana and how some people who smoke it have exhibited a problem."

Not quite 50 years ago. I turned 18 precisely on November 6th, 1984. I was able to cast my vote for Ronnie. (My girlhood bedroom was festooned with his campaign posters and NOT heartthrobs of my tender days.)
I forgot to mention that he raised the initial funding for The Bridge School via a 1986 concert hosted by Neil and Pegi Young and featuring their friends Bruce Springsteen, Robin Williams, Don Henley, Nils Lofgren and Tom Petty. He’s been involved since the beginning and was truly instrumental in creating the school.

My first question to Mr. Young would be, why, if you despise the US some much do you want to become a US citizen?
Disclaimer: while my personal opinion of him is obvious, there was a time when he made some damn good music. I saw him in concert in 1972 and have several LPs/CDs of his. That doesn’t change my opinion that he should be denied US citizenship based on his contempt for America.
