Democrats gained control of both houses of the Virginia General Assembly Tuesday, tapping strength in the suburbs to consolidate power for the first time in a generation and deliver a rebuke to President Trump.
Several results were still close after polls closed on the most expensive and most-watched Virginia legislative races in years, but Democrats flipped at least two seats in the state Senate and at least five in the House of Delegates to takemajorities in both.
Officials reported unusually high turnout in an electionthat served as an opening salvo in next year’s presidential showdown, a test of Democratic defiance and Republican resolve in the era of Trump.
The sweep completed a dramatic political conversion, from red to blue, of a Southern state on Washington’s doorstep.
Both U.S. Senators, a majority of the congressional delegation and all three statewide office holders are Democrats. The state was carried by Democrats in the last three presidential elections. Republicans have not won a statewide contest since 2009.

Kentucky is solidly conservative. The GOP retained every position in Kentucky except for the governorship and it is only because the governor was massively unpopular. I am sure a GOP candidate will win Kentucky governor next election.

My wife and I are here in VA for our granddaughters, but when they hit their teens in a few years, we’re out of here.

I thought I finally escaped corrupt Democratic run states. I was born and raised in NY, went to school in MA and NJ, and lived out in CA. I thought I finally hit a great place to live with decent and efficient government but alas that is now over. Next move is down I-95 to FL or Hilton Head SC.
Virginia is going to experience what HL Mencken said about democracy: “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”
Court drawn districts and especially in NoVa there are districts with large amounts of illegals and resident aliens. So a handful of Leftist voters can win the district.
Northern Virginia is a cancer that should be sliced off from the rest of the state. Too bad the disease has killed the state. Now stand by for full on boot on the neck oppression. NVA is full of the scum of the earth and illegals and Muslims are everywhere. Catastrophic change is already happening and the change is accelerating.
South Carolina will welcome you with open arms.

Virginia should be, at least, two States. Even Ohio would benefit by being split into two, maybe three, new States.
