UAVs taking part in an attack. Wow.

How does a UAV protect the helicopters?

Anyone know?

Hellfire @ AA fire sources and hot spots looking like they are trying to fire a shoulder launched AA missile I would assume.

for one thing, they can “hover and stare”, giving a God’s-eye view of the battlefield, which is pretty handy.

Military maxim: if the enemy is in range, so are you.

UAVs allow us to get close to the enemy without exposing our people to enemy fire. I don't know the details, but I could see the value in being able to have our people high above the action, staying out of range of ground fire.

Meanwhile, the UAVs under their control go roam around the streets and rooftops, peeking in windows, looking for targets, scanning for electronic signals, locating positions of "interesting" cell phones, and providing precision targeting for weapons.
