New evacuations were ordered for at least 50,000 people living in Sonoma County near a huge wildfire and millions of Californians will have their power cut again as the state's largest utility said it would cut power again for the third time in as many weeks because of looming strong winds and high fire danger....PG&E said it would begin blackouts in the afternoon for about 940,000 homes and businesses in 36 counties for 48 hours or longer throughout the San Francisco Bay area, wine country and Sierra foothills. The blackouts are expected to last until Monday

Kind of like the Protective Hand of God has been lifted from the State of California...more and more with these disasters. More and more a place NOT to live.

Well, the useless governor is launching an investigation in high gas prices in California in an attempt to cover for his incompetence and tax increases.

They hope to blame “Big Oil” for their own greed and hatred of hydrocarbon energy.

Welcome to socialism.

Please forgive my ignorance here but...

Why wouldn’t PG&E just trim the trees from around their power lines vs shutting off the power to tens to hundreds of thousands of people?

And Newsom, who had earlier declared a state of emergency for Sonoma and Los Angeles counties, told a news conference: 'We should not have to be here. Years and years of greed, years and years of mismanagement in the utilities, in particularly PG&E.

'Greed has precipitated a lack of intentionality and focus and a hardening our grid, undergrounding their transmission lines.

I think the budget for that went to union contracts and subsequent Democrat Party contributions...plus the construction of a certain train to nowhere.

One excuse and it doesn’t make any sense:
“Under intense pressure to reduce wildfire risk this summer, PG&E Corp. failed to notice that its tree-trimming contractors neglected to chop down hundreds of trees growing dangerously close to power lines,”

Seems reasonable but consider, the area in question in vast and much of it is heavily forested, the grass is dry this time of year and they have fallen short in their maintenance.

What are you, an evil capitalist businessman?

Think of the 3-legged rare black toads who depend on thick underbrush for God's sake!

Our power was due to be cut off at 2 pm....It is now 90 minutes later. Butte County is one of the first areas to have its power cut as many power generation lines come out of the Feather River and Oroville Dam area. Oh well, enjoy the juice while we can...

They used to do this regularly. Now they are so far behind it would take a tremendous effort, and extreme cost.

But, they either ought to get started, or else put the lines underground.

Even if completion takes ten years, it would be worth it.

Is something a ‘disaster’ if it happens practically every year?

Illustrates a corollary to “supply and demand”:
When supply is exhausted, demand becomes acute.

I presume Tesla Solar is going to have very good earnings reports next quarter.

There a rule that limit the area from the line..So if you can go twenty feet each way and you have trees sixty foot high ????

Some homeowners can not trim trees on there own property..

And like most Dem ideas, just kick the can down the road and fund political coffers with the encumbered money.

Isn’t it interesting that problems that could be easily solved a few decades ago have now become overwhelming and very difficult to fix.

Civilization is in decline—think of it as “progressives” in action.

How many arborists, with an MA needed to understand what to cut and how much to cut pertaining to California regulations, can PG&E hire (At around $10 per hour) that enables them to remain fiscally sound?

Seriously, the tree cutters need to navigate/have advanced degrees to understand California regs or else PG&E will be fined. Coming home to roost, perfect storm of incompetence caused by majority of California voters.
