A Tisbury School crossing guard has been relieved of duty and had his personal firearms confiscated for alleged threats to the Tisbury School overheard by a waitress at Linda Jeans restaurant in Oak Bluffs.
Stephen Nichols, 84, of Tisbury, who said his career with the Tisbury Police spanned six decades and who served in the United States Army during the Korean War, told The Times he made no threats to the school, but had criticized its school resource officer in a conversation with a friend. He said the conversation was taken out of context.
Update: Re-instated

“something someone overheard being wrong”

Wonder if the waitress knew him or anything about him prior to this? If not, I can understand she could be concerned just catching bits and pieces, but a quick check would show her worries unfounded.
Good that he was reinstated, but he should not have been fired in the first place, based on unchecked hearsay “evidence”.
Preview of future events with Red Flag laws in place.
article states that when he was approached by police, he was told that what he had said ‘was a felony’-
So evidently people can lie about what you say and you can be charged with felony speech?
He’s back on the job now? Good.
If I were him, though, I would either find a different coffee shop to hang out at, or only go when that busybody waitress is not on her shift.
I am semi-retired at 63, and already I have to plan reasons to get out and stay connected to people a few times a week.
That is the only reason I work part time. I don’t really need the money. I don’t wish for full time, though. Too much like being on a Hamster Wheel.
He may have been reinstated but did he get his confiscated firearms back?
Everyone's a whistleblower now.

The "waitress".
We ain't seen nothing yet... We've all read about the Chinese developing a system of "social credit".. Wouldn't the democrats love to get something like that going here..???
So, did the woman sign a statement or was this some more Star Chamber bullshit? Where is the proof?
The left is happy. They’ve trained the folks to rat on other folks for imagined thought crimes.
This is why we should conceal carry and do not tell anyone that you are carrying.
Also, if you are accused of something in the business and asked to empty your pockets, refuse. And ask that the police be called. You are not obligated to give up you your rights to a security guard at a business.
So, his guns are seized/ forfeited.
He is not allowed to own them any more and the gov has essintaill forced him to sell
His mass LTC gun license is revoked. In mass this is the “permission” to own/ buy or carry ANY gun.
Licensing, application/ approval and renewal are all up the “discretion” of the checif of police in the town where you live and work.
Did or didnt the resource officer leave the school to get coffee downtown while he was working. Also.... Is or is not the “waitress” related to, or sleeping with the resource officer?
Somebody tried to screw this man and somebody needs to find out why.
If this is how your local police act then just use it as a tactic against the left. You can always claim you overheard something (just be able to demonstrate you were nearby). Maybe you “misheard” but better safe than sorry right?
Only when these tactics work against the left in leftist jurisdictions will they bother to train police properly. Next time you see a known lefty, call the cops.
In Mass.. ANYTHING.
Once the CLEO deems you “unsuitable” it’s done. Anytime, for any reason “suitability” can be withdrawn.
And it would be easier and cheaper to move out of state than to fight it in court.
This is why all of these “red flag” laws are a problem. It’s too easy to take people’s guns away with little to no due process. And what’s the process for getting the guns back? There probably isn’t one.
I have a feeling he has not surrendered ALL of his guns.
I wouldn’t either, or I would try not to. His SonInLaw may be a trustworthy fellow who now has custody. So he’s lucky right there.
Still, it’s a shame that he, a Korean Vet, pushing 85, has to play these games with the government that he helped to defend.
