Fox News chief news anchor Shepard Smith is leaving the conservative cable network after 23 years, it was announced Friday.
Smiths appearance Friday on Shepard Smith Reporting was his last appearance on the network, according to Fox News. In addition to working as chief news anchor, Smith had been managing editor of the networks breaking news unit.
Smiths departure follows a report that he was warned last month by Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott and network president Jay Wallace not to criticize the networks evening anchor Tucker Carlson again.
Smith had said on the air that it was repugnant for Carlson not speaking up in defense of Fox News contributor Andrew Napolitano after a Carlson guest, attorney Joseph di Genova, called Napolitano a fool for saying that President Donald Trump had broken the law. Di Genova is a legal adviser to Trump.

He very likely has a non compete.
Better read: Liberal leaves liberal leaning network.
Maybe Shep, and the little boy whose stool he pushes in will now have time to relive Joe Biden’s reminisces of gay bathhouses and round-the-clock sex.
It is a good start.
You're not alone.
He does....going to be awhile before we see him on air again.
Paul Ryan’s fault.
The Fox makeup budget gets an unexpected windfall!
He’s going to work at a gay bar in customer servicing.
Conservative network?!
Only between the hours of 8 to 11 PM Eastern, weekdays.
At the moment.
Yahoo and Hooray! Replace him(?) with the Judge. No, not Nappy, Jeanine.
Something else to consider: Shep signed his current, $8 million-a-year contract when Roger Ailes was still running the show, and he was the primary anchor for breaking news. Now, the prime time anchors lead the coverage during their programs, and there are plenty of equally capable anchors during the day, including Bill Hemmer and Harris Faulkner.
It has become very clear that Shep really doesn’t fit into the network’s future plans. And paying a mid-afternoon anchor $8 million is way over market value, especially when you consider he’s making more than David Muir and Lester Holt, and they attract many more viewers than Shep. If Smith remained at Fox, he was looking at a steep pay cut, and I’m guessing his ego couldn’t handle that. Look for him to pop up at MSNBC, and be an utter flop.
Unless the net lets him out of it...
When was the last time that any news anchor voluntarily left his job for reasons that didn’t have anything to do with a penis?
His new gig is a candy factory job packing fudge.
I think it’s a candy factory.
Tween Barr visiting Murdock and Cavuto unaware there more to this story
Yes!
I guess if you have even close to a balance between conservative and liberals on a network you are considered conservative. Kinda like the Philadelphia Eagles were criticized in the papers for being racist because they dared to have >40 percent white guys on the team. Horrors!!
LOL!
Oof!
