Overall, Gary, Indiana ranked first, followed by Port Arthur, Texas and Detroit, Michigan.
California’s most miserable city is Huntington Park (10). Other cities in the top 50:
The full list ranks the top 1,000 cities based on Census data (note the list starts at line three; therefore the numbers on the left are off by two).

CRITERIA TO BE A MISERABLE CITY:

Business Insider said it used U.S. Census data to analyze 1,000 U.S. cities on criteria such as crime, drug addiction, population changes, job opportunities, commute times, household incomes, abandoned homes and effects from problems such as natural disasters.
Cities on the list shared qualities, including few opportunities, devastation from natural disasters, high crime and addiction rates, and often many abandoned houses.
What are the demographics?
These sorts of lists can be entertaining, but , it all depends on the criteria being used .
Also, if you are looking for jobs and/or places to live, you personally might very well find a great job and a very nice home in some of the miserable places.
My state, FL, has a tumor, it’s called Dade county (Broward is a close 2nd). Most of FL cities on the list are in that county.
Miami is like the 5th in the US for crime. Hmm, Miami hasn’t had an R mayor in >50yrs.
Next question:
Which political party runs those ‘miserable’ places?.................
FL seems like the place where old white people go to retire and young crazy white people go to live :)
Agreed. This is a bizarre list.

Los Angeles "typhoid city" is ranked 187 and not in top 10 (let alone top 50)?
Better yet, San Francisco "fecal matter city" is ranked 748?
Chicago "murder city" is ranked outside top 50 worst, at 78?
Just a WAG, but my money says Commiefornia.
I lived in El Monte or many years. Yep — miserable.
There is a pretty clear dark to light spectrum on the California list.
It’s odd, how CA is THE worst state, but FL gets THE most crap from movies and stuff. FL always gets criticized/ridiculed in movies and shows. But I never see anything about CA.
Examples:
The Mick: one sibling ties the youngest to a bed because she doesn’t want to watch him. The other sibling says, what is this Florida?
The Detour: about a chaotic family’s life. On there way to FL, they get stuck in traffic blocked by rednecks trying to put their t-tops on in the rain. The man has an arrow in his chest. The main character says what is it with FL.
I could go on and on. FL is like the butt of jokes in movies and shows.
It’s another Democrat success story!!!!!
What are the demographics?
Yep!
Which party rules?
What % 3rd world immigrants?
What % single mom households?
What % school dropouts?
Yep, S.F. and L.A. are buoyed in this ranking by high incomes, low rates of abandoned homes, etc.
Everytime I see these stories about this Tarnished Godless hellhole, I think of that stupid commercial the girly man made.
We’re Number 1!!, it should be re-edited to show how we are #1 in , Homeless, Poverty, Welfare, Crime, Illegal Aliens, with The Girly Man smiling and saying We’re Number One.
The demograpbics of commute times, or the de.ographics.of natural disasters?

Just about a year ago, I set out on the road,
seeking my fame and fortune, looking for a pot of gold
Misery loves company.
