The United Nations (UN) is running a deficit of $230 million, Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on Monday, and may run out of money by the end of October.
In a letter intended for the 37,000 employees at the UN secretariat and obtained by AFP, Guterres said unspecified additional stop-gap measures would have to be taken to ensure salaries and entitlements are paid.
Member States have paid only 70 per cent of the total amount needed for our regular budget operations in 2019. This translates into a cash shortage of $230 million at the end of September. We run the risk of depleting our backup liquidity reserves by the end of the month, he wrote.
To cut costs, Guterres mentioned postponing conferences and meetings and reducing services, while also restricting official travel to only essential activities and taking measures to save energy.
Guterres had asked member states earlier this year to up contributions to the world body to head off cash flow problems, but they refused, a UN official said on condition of anonymity.

News so good, that it makes you weep with joy.
:)
The UN building is destroying our environment with its ridiculously large energy use.
Tear it down and turn it into a public park.
(If they love environmentalism so much let them choke on it!)
Tear down the building and turn it into homes for our wounded veterans, and add a VA hospital too.

An inspirational moment. I’m filled with a sense of hope. :)
Sounds like an "unexpected" WIN
I love all those "unexpected" Wins
Most Trumpian.
Hey! post 14
Don’t wish it/them on Prague.
It is a nice city.
Great news! Thanks for posting.
DEFUND anti-freedom, anti-truth, anti-individual, anti-life, anti-American collectives, foreign and domestic. DISMANTLE/DESTROY as necessary.
Tear down the building and turn it into homes for our wounded veterans, and add a VA hospital too.

VA hospitals SHOULD be among the most prominent and beautiful edifices in our country to honor the service of those who sacrificed for the nation.
Trump would never put his name on such and ugly building.
But sadly, I do not believe they will be going anywhere anytime soon. We will most likely bail them out. Or they will continue to run a huge deficit.
I remember when Ted Turner gave the U.N. $1 Billion. They made a movie about it; “Gone in 60 Seconds”.
They’re going to have to switch to domestic champagne and cheaper hookers.
Probably not possible without a full gut job. From what I’ve read, it’s quite a wreck of a building. And an institution, of course.
I was thinking Port-au-Prince. I hear real estate is reasonable there.
