Trump knocks 'ridiculous Endless Wars' amid US troop pullout from Syria 10/07/19 08:42 AM EDT

Just In... Republicans urges Trump to reverse course on Syria withdrawal

2020 Democrats hit Trump's planned Syria withdrawal

President Trump on Monday said it is time to remove the United States from “ridiculous Endless Wars" after he decided to pull back American troops from northern Syria amid an impending Turkish military operation there.

“The Kurds fought with us, but were paid massive amounts of money and equipment to do so. They have been fighting Turkey for decades. I held off this fight for … almost 3 years, but it is time for us to get out of these ridiculous Endless Wars, many of them tribal, and bring our soldiers home,” Trump tweeted.

“WE WILL FIGHT WHERE IT IS TO OUR BENEFIT, AND ONLY FIGHT TO WIN,” the president added.

Trump’s remarks came hours after the White House announced late Sunday that Turkey would be moving forward with a long-threatened offensive in northern Syria and that U.S. troops would not be in the “immediate area” when it happens.

Trump spoke with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan about the matter earlier Sunday, White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said.

“Turkey will soon be moving forward with its long-planned operation into Northern Syria. The United States Armed Forces will not support or be involved in the operation, and United States forces, having defeated the ISIS territorial ‘Caliphate,’ will no longer be in the immediate area,” Grisham said.

The U.S. began pulling back troops from the Turkish-Syrian border early Monday, according to multiple reports.

Trump’s decision marked a reversal and was viewed as an endorsement of Turkey’s plans for the offensive.

The U.S. has worked closely with Kurdish fighters in Syria in the battle against ISIS, or the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which are led by the Kurds, reportedly denounced Trump's decision as a “stab in the back” and have warned it could erode gains made against ISIS in the region.

Turkey, which views the Kurdish forces as a terrorist insurgency, has long been frustrated with the U.S. alliance with the group. The U.S. has been working on establishing a safe zone along the border in order to reduce tensions, but the plans have thus far been unsuccessful and Turkey has threatened a military operation near the border.

Trump's decision drew immediate criticism, including from one of his closest allies, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).

“I don’t know all the details regarding President Trump’s decision in northern Syria. In process of setting up phone call with Secretary [of State Mike] Pompeo. If press reports are accurate this is a disaster in the making,” Graham tweeted Monday.

Trump, who campaigned on bringing U.S. troops home, has sought to withdraw U.S. forces from Syria. He called for a complete withdrawal last December, but ultimately reversed course amid protest from the Pentagon.

Trump on Monday also repeated his claim that the U.S. has defeated 100 percent of the ISIS caliphate, which has been challenged in the past.

“Turkey, Europe, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Russia and the Kurds will now have to … figure the situation out, and what they want to do with the captured ISIS fighters in their ‘neighborhood.’ They all hate ISIS, have been enemies for years. We are 7000 miles away and will crush ISIS again if they come anywhere near us!” Trump tweeted.

The President is absolutely right. What was it Eisenhower warned? “Beware the military-industrial complex.” In our time, we could say it as beware the military-industrial-big tech-federal intelligence/law enforcement/administrative state/big media complex. In simpler terms the cancer Eisenhower warned us about has metastasized a thousand fold or more.

We have been helping the Kurds in Syria for 6 years. With our help, they have gained military and political control of a significant and contiguous portion of the country and have mostly peace with Assad. Sure, they helped us fight ISIS, but they were the CLEAR benefactors of OUR support. How long do they expect us to stay? Decades? If Assad is willing to cede land to Turkey without a fight, are we now supposed to defend Syrian soil?

I think we should be ready for Turkey to commit genocide against the Kurds.

Just saying.

What’s interesting and ironic is that the characters and companies who control the military industrial complex are also attendees to the Bildergerg meetings in the effort to save the world and humanity from themselves.

The future war is in Asia. China is loving America slowly be weakened. Dithering in the sh*tholes of Afghanistan,Iraq and Syria has been for very little gain with an enormous cost to America. We haven’t declared war since WWII. We destroyed the Axis in less than 4 years but can’t seem to or want to defeat our enemy that we can’t seem to identify. Almost 20 years in the “war on terror” and similar misadventures.

To top it off he was also threatening to abolish the Federal Reserve from what I understand. Double motives there.

President Trump on Monday said it is time to remove the United States from “ridiculous Endless Wars"

Most Americans would agree with that statement.

The third world war is right now, on our own soil. No tanks needed. Other countries have indoctrinated and conscripted US citizens to fight other US citizens by proxy.

I remember a time where the left was against war, now they love it

And if Trump is against it, they're for it. And they don't give two shit-holes if it cost the lives of thousands of Americans.

I just read this, all this fuss for 25 less troops, are they serious, is that why Lindsey Graham is having a coronary, over 25 less troops..its not even a full pullout..and yes you are right, if Trump is for it, the rest of the commie media are against it..Trump should come out and say he’s for open borders, watch the left say NO NO SECURE THE BORDER

” Is someone seriously suggesting that we were going to invade Syria and fight Turkey in a war with the Kurds?”

I recall the Fraud and his faithful “threatening” us with war if we didn’t hand over a billion untraceable dollars on a pallet to our country’s worst foreign enemies.

And the Hussein Heads HERE shrugged and said, “It’s their money anyway.”

If we want to end ISIS then we must admit the truth that it is a war against Islam and attack the ideological foundations that support it.

“WE WILL FIGHT WHERE IT IS TO OUR BENEFIT, AND ONLY FIGHT TO WIN,” the president added.

Winning!

I’d let all the troublesome countries in the Mid East know that if the Islamic CANCER killing their nations begins to spread to the United States we will bomb them back to stone age.

ROE will be extremely limited. The cost will be devastating.

They were the only allies of the Nazis that didn’t get bombed into the stone age, only because they were already there.

"Congress can declare war on Syria if its jonesing that badly to keep fighting someone else’s war there."

An excellent point. This should be the response to anyone who argues against Trump's judgment.

In this case, it isn't Syria the hawks are wanting to fight, but Turkey. They are asking Trump to defend Syrian soil from Turkey, when Assad is not willing to do so.

If I read Trump correctly, he’s merely employing the Nixon strategy on Vietnam: break our deal and we’ll bomb the crap out of you.

It worked great until the CIA engineered Nixon’s resignation. Oh, well.

Trump has 5 years to set this policy in stone and make it work. I suppose identifying who to bomb the crap out of is always difficult, but it’s a lesser problem than maintaining US troops indefinitely in these sh** holes.

Another problem is nuclearized states that own that deterrent (thank you Bill Clinton on the Norks and Obama on Iran). China went nuclear after the Taiwan live “Taiwan Straits” wars of late 50’s. The incentive is large, so nuke programs must be eradicated quickly.

Speaking of which, one of the absolutely worst Obama legacies is Libya, which surrendered its nuke program under Bush but nut-jobs Clinton/Obama killed him for it. Iran took note.

“Killing off ISIS was a national interest”

That ignores the reality that the CIA/State/USAID created them in cooperation with the Saudis and Gulf States. The idea was to remove Assad and install another sunni theocracy.

ISIS got out of control, but you dont get credit for killing something you created in the first place. That’s like lighting a fire, then bragging that you put it out.
