House Dems believe they have enough votes to pass articles of impeachment, senior member says

House Democrats believe they have the 217 votes needed to pass articles of impeachment against President Trump stemming from his Ukraine call -- enough votes to impeach Trump and send articles to the Senate -- even before their planned hearings or formal investigation.

A senior member of the House Democratic Caucus told Fox News on Sunday it's unlikely House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will give in to the president's demand for an "inquiry vote."

The source said that while leadership hasn't officially whipped or nose-counted a vote to "impeach," they believed the numbers were there based on the 227 votes already on record for an inquiry and were working under that assumption.

When asked what could stop the process, the source said it was unclear but the caucus couldn't rule out the idea of "cold feet" among some Democrats,

The House currently has 433 members: 235 Democrats, 197 Republicans and one Independent. A bill must be passed by a simple majority, requiring at least 217 votes.

Even if 18 Democrats vote against the articles, the majority party could still have enough votes to pass impeachment.

Independent Rep. Justin Amash from Michigan has said he could vote in favor of impeachment, which meant Democrats could lose 19 votes and still pass impeachment articles.

"The House is going to vote without hearings and without debate. The Senate is going to have a five minute trial presided over by CJ Roberts who is not going to allow objections."

If the Congress does that, the country really is lost short of a bloody civil war. It would be time to withdraw the consent of the governed. One big question is where will the military stand and will they fire on Americans?

I'm not sure they have the votes.

And I think Nan's not sure either.

There are vulnerable dems out there, those in Red districts, who may waver. Wouldn't you, if you knew that even if impeachment passes the house it will die in the Senate anyway, and voting for it loses your seat?

Everyone assumes Nancy's got complete control, and the dems will vote as a monolithic bloc, but I see some cracks.

AOC's already dismissed the idea of impeachment, hasn't she? How many will follow HER, instead of Nancy? If the squad sits this one out, impeachment is toast!

I think secretly there's a movement within the party to let Trump go, cede the election and rebrand the Democrat party.

After 2020, the Pubs will still own the WH and the Senate. The Dems may still have the House, but not under Pelosi. There will be noticeably fewer septegenarians in the Dem party - Nan, Joe, Bernie, the Clintons, the Kerrys, all the old guard will be retired or voted out of leadership positions. The new face of the democratic party will be young, female, ethnically diverse. Old white people, especially old white guys, will be scarce or invisible.

JMO, of course, and I'm really not sure it'll happen, but I suspect the Dems are reinventing themselves, and Nancy doesn't fit the mold. Impeachment fails, the blame falls on Nancy, and they wait for '24.

It won’t be a vote for impeachment - it’s a vote to engage in a COUP.

If they ever succeed, this is how we’ll treat it. They need to be told loud and often. This facade is so transparent they’re practically not even hiding it.

Question: if they vote can the Dems then get court-enforced subpoena power?

”One big question is where will the military stand and will they fire on Americans?”

I think it is possible that a “rocket docket” impeachment could divide the military.

Despite all the BS on this and other sites, to have a sustained civil war you need two armies. Most scenarios of patriots vs USMC end in disaster, IMO.

But if Trump is convicted on secret charges and without a defense, and Pence agrees to be sworn in and appoints a SECDEF acceptable to Romney and Pelosi, while Trump withdraws to Mount Weather with his SECDEF and they are both issuing orders - then, I think, you could have some serious bloodshed.

Will you bet your life on that?

So they have the vote of the Goose-stepping RAT majority to impeach. They’ve had that since November 2016.

All they need now is some real evidence and witnesses other than rumors and gossips.

Read pearls post right above your, when they do the Repubs have full rights to subpoena whomever they want and then the crap hits the wall as they are testifying under oath

"Under oath" means nothing to them. They'll just lie about everything the whole time.

But, if they take the vote, the GOP gets subpoena power to at least partially balance the record.

I would not bet on any of that. We have a "Pretense-of-Law" in this matter. The Democrats will not allow due process or any other rule that will get in the way of their desired outcome. And it is clear that the Republican establishment wants Trump gone as well. They believe, incorrectly, that they can continue to ride the gravy train in the aftermath of an impeachment and a conviction.

On that last point, the Republican establishment is gravely mistaken. The Democrats have already promised more swag to their passionate supporters than they can ever deliver. Things will get very nasty when the Democrats come up short-handed and their quisling Republican allies will not make the cut. In fact the Republicans will be the first ones served up on a platter to appease the mobs.

Once the Articles are presented to the Senate, it will be necessary to have a "Plan B", and maybe a "Plan C". None of that will involve letters, phone calls, or voting.

There is an upcoming demonstration of indeterminate size and not much information about major conservatives either backing or speaking. It is time for President Trump to up the pressure and, perhaps, use this demonstration as a vehicle to call his base to DC on a large scale. The Members of the House and Senate need to see vast support for the President and understand what might happen if they carry out their coup.

She’s got them...just like she played the no impeachment BS ..SHE HAS THEM!! Watch for the vote on Tuesday after they get Trump impeachment dare letter tomorrow! FOLKS THESE BASTARDS ARE EEEEEVVVVVIL! They’ll stop at nothing!!! What I’m more interested in is, how are Americans really really feeling about this travesty perpetrated by the evil demonic rats!! Are they STILL in the president’s corner, or have been brainwashed to the hoax? Sorry but I just don’t trust skirmish independents. Our base is pretty well glued in the president’s corner but the independent voters will be a concerned!

So what’s stopping them from going forward?

Because the more politically astute of the Democrat leadership know that if the House voted for impeachment based on the hearsay evidence of an unidentified whistle blower without a substantial investigation, the American people will see it for what it is: a naked political coup. Even some people who wouldn't vote for Trump would find that act repugnant.

"If they had the votes she would have voted already...fact is they DO NOT have the votes and the longer this drags out the few[er] they have...."

I believe you're correct.
I truly believe they'd impeach Pres. Trump
if they thought they could win.
But the DemocRATS know they can't win.
So all this impeachment talk is only about smearing
Pres. Trump's reputation for the history books and
an attempt to influence the 2020 elections in their favor.
All of it planned by Obama/Hillary and her Deep State
Flying Monkeys before the 2016 elections had even occurred.
