Today the president reiterated that he wants Ukraine and China to investigate Joe Biden. Democrats have not made clear why that is a crime.
President Trump threw a glass of cold water over the impeachment inquiry in the House of Representatives today by essentially stipulating to the main allegation being made against him. In fact, he doubled down on it.
Asked about what he wants Ukrainian President Volomydyr Zelensky to do about Hunter Bidens business dealings there Trump said, I would recommend that they start an investigation into the Bidens. He also suggested that China should open a similar investigation. But what Trump was mostly saying is that he is the president and there is nothing wrong with saying such things to foreign leaders.
The issue of whether the president may urge foreign leaders to conduct investigations of American citizens running for office has now become the crux of the impeachment inquiry. Long gone now are allegations of any quid pro quo with Zelensky. That ship sailed when the transcript of Trumps call with the Ukrainian leader offered no evidence that the president was offering military aid as a carrot, which was the initial allegation.
Now Democrats insist that no quid pro quo is needed to prove a high crime or misdemeanor occurred during the phone call. Instead, they insist, this is a question of an illegal campaign contribution. They seem to be suggesting that Trump was asking the Ukrainian government to dig up dirt on his political rival Joe Biden, rather than asking them to root out corruption that allegedly involved his son Hunter Biden, and potentially the former vice president himself.
But is that a high crime or misdemeanor? We know that Hunter Biden took an extremely lucrative job from a Ukrainian energy concern for which he had no relevant experience. Is it really so strange for Americans to want to know if what he was really offering was access to the vice president?
P
IF YOU GOT NOTHING TO HIDE, WHY WOULD YOU CARE?
Trump didn’t ask them to make things up, like has been done to him for the past 3 years.
In Pelosi’s America, a crime is whatever knot she has in her undies.
> But is that a high crime or misdemeanor? <
Its a high crime if the House says it is. Period. No appeal to any court is possible. The Constitution gives the House complete freedom when it comes to impeachment. Its not like a criminal trial where actual proof of criminal activity is needed to proceed.
Benjamin Franklin once remarked that a President could be impeached just for being rude!
But would the American people as a whole accept an impeachment over such a trivial matter such as rudeness, or a phone call? I doubt it. And thats where Pelosi needs to be careful.
I want someone to figure out how China and Iran paid off Obama.
Asking for an investigation cannot be construed to be an attack on an opponent. For the simple reason that the investigation might declare that the opponent is completely clean and a fantastic human being etc etc.
It doesn’t really make any sense for anyone to object to that investigation.
Democrats may not have made it clear why President Trump urging China and Ukraine to investigate an election rival and family is a crime. On the other hand the chair of the Federal Elections Commission does feel it is a crime and says so.
More specifically: “In response to Trumps interview in June, Weintraub took the opportunity to remind the nation that what Trump had proposed doing violated U.S. law.”
Weintraub then said: Let me make something 100% clear to the American public and anyone running for public office: It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election, Weintraub wrote. This is not a novel concept.”
That belies the point. An investigation might yield a conclusion that Biden is clean and a magnificent human being. Therefore soliciting that investigation is not a thing of value to Trump.
It has no value at the time of solicitation.
The author obviously has little understanding of Soviet style show trials. You pick a suspect, force them to confess or create enough false evidence so a hand selected jury fearful of reaching the wrong verdict convicts them of what they need to be convicted of to satisfy the political leaders.
Ellen Weintraub is a Democrat. She offered an opinion. Her opinion has little to no validity Her opinion has never been enforced. If her opinion was enforced Washington DC would be vacant of nearly all the elected and asking for an investigation does not rise to the level of a value received.
When will the American Public be allowed to investigate the elected Congress and the lamestream media unobstructed by Congress and the lamestream media ???
Does that include the Steele dossier? Wasn’t that from a British national?
“It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election.”
Biden is not yet running against Trump. He is running for his party’s nomination.
Trump does not yet have his party’s nomination for the 2020 presidential race. Since he is not currently running against Biden for anything, asking a foreign leader to look into possible corruption by Biden provides no value to Trump personally.
As head of the Executive branch, Trump is the chief law enforcement officer in the nation. He is also the chief diplomat as head of state. If he suspects corruption by an American citizen it is within his authority to request either foreign or domestic actors to investigate. It is no different than Rod Rosenstein ordering a special prosecutor to investigate “claims” of Russian collusion with the Trump campaign.

Next time you are in a supermarket, take a look at the magazines in the checkout line, or if you have a friend who still has cable, grab an episode of Teen Moms on MTV, and then get back to us about what the American people will accept.
But snitches get stitches
