Religious Freedom Restoration Act - it was a law that strengthened religious liberties - EG you couldnt be sued if you didnt want to bake a gay wedding cake.
Pence proudly signed the law that the GOP in Indiana wrote up and passed and the gay lobby pounced and attacked full-on in the state.
Rather than defend the law and argue why it was needed Pence capitulated which led to even more blood letting and now the GOP wont touch religious issues at all here and happily supports the gay lobby.
thanks - any in-depth sources you recommend for analysis of this?
This was a red flag for me when I heard that Pence had been chosen. But veeps are chosen to help the ticket appeal to more voters, and Pence probably filled that bill.
Pence played the role of a politician perfectly in that case. He was everything his constituents expected him to be -- a tough guy when it didn't seem to matter, a simpering loser when it DID matter, and about as reliable as a fart in the wind.
That's also why Pence -- in a post-Trump era -- couldn't win a presidential election if he ran unopposed.
