CAGW Names Illinois Gov. J. B. Pritzker September 2019 Porker of the Month

Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) named Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker (D) September 2019 Porker of the Month for signing a $40.1 billion budget without any spending restraints and $1.4 billion in pork-barrel projects.

Illinois currently has a $223.9 billion shortfall, which breaks down to a debt burden of $52,600 per taxpayer. The state has $6 billion in unpaid bills and the lowest credit rating of any state in the country. Its unfunded pension liability tops $130 billion. Illinois taxpayers are so saddled with debt, taxes, corrupt local government, and dwindling middle-class jobs that 157,000 residents have left over the past five years.

Gov. Pritzker claims his budget deal means “a new era of fiscal stability has arrived in Illinois” and called it a “watershed moment for Illinois.” On the contrary, his budget contains tens of billions in new spending, including $1.4 billion for pork projects like pickleball courts, dog parks, snowmobile paths, school playgrounds, swimming pools, and arts grants. It also included a controversial $1,600 pay raise for state legislators. Rep. David McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills) said, “The Pritzker policies of higher taxes, out of control state spending and legislative pay raises will be very harmful to Illinois citizens. Republican insiders who supported the Pritzker budget should be ashamed of themselves.”

Just because he’s a big guy doesn’t mean they should call him that . Ooooh, they mean porker in a different sense.

It seems that Illinois is headed for its fifth failed governorship in a row. With the mess they and the legislature have made, no one good will ever want the job. Illinois is a textbook example of how the policies of the Left will destroy a place. Chicago and Cook County are off the deep end politically and are largely responsible for this. Chicago will never reform, but I feel sorry for the people downstate who didn’t vote for this.

I think any picture of the governor would scream, “porker of the year”.

Can the state declare bankruptcy or be forced into it by its debtors?

For a state to declare bankruptcy would be uncharted territory. The jury is still out on if it’s even possible.

“It seems that Illinois is headed for its fifth failed governorship in a row.“

Two out of the last 5 went to Federal prison.

Think about that.

Chapter 9 specifically forbids it. States are sovereign entities.

That doesn’t mean that the music won’t stop.

“Can the state declare bankruptcy or be forced into it by its debtors?”

Soon the answer to that question will be academic.

They can’t print their own money and very soon the credit will be shut off. The state government come to a stop.

Yep.

I have a plan for that day. I’m going to pour myself 3 fingers of 10 year old Scotch, grab a cigar, and head into my backyard to watch the rosy glow in the eastern sky as the West and South Sides of Chicago go up in flames.

And I’m going to laugh, and laugh, and laugh.

Ryan, Blago... And before that, there was Dan Walker.

Len Small set some records as a corrupt Illinois governor.

Small was the Illinois Treasurer from 1905 to 1907, and again from 1917 to 1919. He was indicted, six months after becoming governor, for embezzling over a million dollars in a money-laundering scheme in which he "misplaced" state funds into a fake bank while he was state treasurer. He was acquitted, but eight jurors later got state jobs, raising suspicions of jury tampering.

Small was elected Governor of Illinois in 1920 and was reelected in 1924. As governor, Small pardoned 20 members of the Communist Labor Party of America, convicted under the Illinois Sedition Act. He also pardoned or paroled over 1000 convicted felons, including Harry Guzik, brother of the Chicago Outfit's Jake Guzik, of Posen, Illinois, who was convicted of kidnapping young girls and forcing them into lives of prostitution (then commonly called white slavery).

In 1923, bootlegger Edward "Spike" O'Donnell was released from prison by Small. O'Donnell returned to Chicago as the leader of one of the most powerful bootlegging gangs in the city.

Small's reputation for corruption finally caught up with him at the ballot box when he was defeated in the 1928 Republican "Pineapple Primary" by a margin of 63% to 37% against Louis Lincoln Emmerson, the incumbent Illinois Secretary of State.

Somehow, everyone believes Obama was "honest"...

Don’t forget Otto Kerner (governor from 1961 - 1968) - they got him on mail fraud.

But my favorite was Paul Powell; he only made it to Secretary of State (in roughly the same time period as Kerner), but ultimately shoeboxes of cash were found in his home. Corruption on a cash-only basis is pretty ballsy, even for Illinois.

Jabba the Pritzker is unlikely to end up pressing license plates, however, as he has so much inherited wealth that he can add to his stash by relatively innocuous practices like moving toilets out of spare mansions so as to avoid taxes. He was chosen by the Machine largely because he was a pliable moron with minimal traceable ties to the sewage reservoir that is Illinois politics, and as such would be easily manipulated by the parasites actually running - I mean ruining - the state.

Yeah. I always wonder who will be next. I think Quinn and Rauner are relatively clean. Ryan stank of old-school corruption. I voted for the Democrat that year. Blago was in a category all his own.

When are Illinois voters going to finally get rid of that troll Madigan? BillyBoy posted a pic of him once while arguing against repealing the 17th Amendment. Madigan literally looks like a troll or a gargoyle. He’d be more at home perched on the corner of a cathedral or an older Chicago building.

Madigan is in his 80’s - it will be the nursing home or the Feds - but he will not live forever. He will never be voted out. Madigan has a majority of city, county and state workers in his district. It is a built in campaign army.
