Yang: Climate Change May Require Elimination of Car Ownership Imagines 'constant roving fleet of electric cars' as alternative

Graham Piro - SEPTEMBER 19, 2019 2:05 PM

Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang said the United States may have to eliminate private car ownership to combat climate change during MSNBC's climate forum at Georgetown University Thursday morning.

He told MSNBC host Ali Velshi that "we might not own our own cars" by 2050 to wean the United States economy off of fossil fuels, describing private car ownership as "really inefficient and bad for the environment." Privately owned cars would be replaced by a "constant roving fleet of electric cars."

A video posted by the GOP War Room shows Velshi asking Yang what measures he sees the world taking to fight climate change by 2050.

"You have this ability to envision the future, right, with your proposals on universal basic income. You've played the whole chess game out and you see what it looks like on the other end. Play the chess game out on climate change," Velshi said. "What does the world look like to you in 2050? What physically do you think we will do differently than we do today that will result in us fighting climate change?"

"Well I mentioned before that we might not own our own cars. Our current car ownership and usage model is really inefficient and bad for the environment," Yang said.

"You guys all probably agree with this because you're quite young," he told the Georgetown University crowd, adding an anecdote about driving a 1985 Honda Accord as a young man.

Yang then proposed an alternative to individuals owning their own cars.

"What we're really selling is not the car, it's mobility," he said. "So if you have mobility that's then tied into a much more, if you had like, for example, this constant roving fleet of electric cars that you would just order up, then you could diminish the impact of ground transportation on our environment very, very quickly."

Yang's climate plan calls for nearly $5 trillion in spending over the next 20 years. His proposal includes embracing the impacts of climate change.

"Move our people to higher ground. Natural disasters and other effects of climate change are already causing damage and death. We need to adapt our country to this new reality," his plan states.

The plan also includes a zero emissions standard for all new cars by 2030 and hundreds of billions of dollars in investments in emission-free ground and air transportation.

Yang enjoyed a recent polling bump and is now in fourth place in the California primary ahead of formerly "top-tier" candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.). "Must have been the crowdsurfing," he tweeted.

I think I'm going to grab my AR-15, and get in my Explorer and go for a long drive.

Can't believe Dem candidates are letting their masks slip like this. Take away our guns, take. away our cars. They are truly insane and power mad.

But I'm sure the nomenklatura will still be chauffeured in whatever passes for a Yukon Denali then. While all the plebes will have been shoved into public transport. Simply put, an automobile allows you to come and go as you please, when you please, and to and from where you please. In a word, that's LIBERTY.

“He told MSNBC host Ali Velshi that “we might not own our own cars” by 2050 to wean the United States economy off of fossil fuels...”

The ecology people don’t seem to get it. Fossil fuels are not a problem. They are the reason many countries can feed their people.

In the US, as of the end of 2018, there were 1.39 million people working in the petroleum industry. As for world wide, the 2017 estimates for worldwide gross domestic product range between $75 trillion and $87.5 trillion, the oil and gas drilling sector currently makes up something between 2% and 3% of the global economy.

To shut this off trying to justify the spending of funds for alternate energy for a world \wide economy is absolutely insane and will cause a world wide depression. People will go to war with their neighbors looking for food and water, the basics of living.

So petroleum is used for more than just energy. It is also used for economy, safety. security, and investment. If you take those things away, it will be a faster end to civilization than the slow process of limiting ourselves.

“These are not normal times,” Victor Davis Hanson wrote on Sunday. “There is (for now) no longer a Democratic Party. Instead, it is a revolutionary Jacobin movement that believes socialism is our salvation, that identity politics is our creed, that gun confiscation is our duty, that the abrupt end of fossil fuels is coming very soon, that open borders is our new demography, and that the archetypical unmarried, childless, urban hipster is our model woke citizen.”

I have a couple cord of big rounds, 30-36” to split up but have to remember to get gas for the splitter when I go to town. I damn well am not splitting them by hand.

Another cord of oak or two and I’ll be done for the winter.

Not really. You can still buy tobacco products. Tobacco was just demonized. These SOBs want to take our guns and our cars away.

Let's list the unworkable proposals these socialist/commies have come up with so far in no particular order:

1. No more hamburgers, because cows fart methane.
2. Everyone should change to a vegan diet.
3. No more vaping, because it contains nicotine but not tar and other chemicals that cause cancer.
4. No more fossil fuel usage, even thought natural gas is clean.
5. NO NUKES! NO NUKES!
6. Similar failing Canadian/European free medical for everyone whether here legally or illegally.
7. Free college for everyone.
8. Eliminate college loans.
9 Free money for the poor.
10.No borders to let the entire world in for the above.
11.Now, no individual transportation after outlawing car ownership.
12.Laws dictating air travel.

I know I missing some, feel free to add. I have come to the conclusion that the Elites want to return to a gather/hunter world which they would be exempt from. Think Hunger Games scenario.

If you haven’t done so already pick up some iron kettles for on top of your stove when you go into town.

Each pound of water released as vapor gives you 1000 BTUs which would otherwise just go to waste.

1 gallon of evaporation = 8000 BTU.

I’ve fit four kettles on the stove.

I think Yang is just jerking our wangs. He’s stupider than I thought.

Isn’t he also against Kosher food or is it circumcision?

The man is a few brain cells short of a moron despite his business skills.
