Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz said Wednesday that he referred ex-FBI Director James Comey for criminal prosecution.
We are required by the [Inspector General] Act to send information that weve identified that could plausibly be criminal to the Department of Justice, said Mr. Horowitz, confirming what amounted to a criminal referral.
The Justice Department ultimately decided not to prosecute Mr. Comey despite Mr. Horowitzs team concluding he improperly leaked information to the news media. The documents leaked by Mr. Comey were sensitive, but not classified.
Mr. Comey asked a law professor friend to share with The New York Times a memo detailing his conversations with President Trump in order to pressure the Justice Department to open an investigation of the president.
In a report released last month, Mr. Horowitz wrote that the former FBI director set a dangerous example when he shared the memos to push the Justice Department to act.

Geez. NOWHERE in your link does it say anything about a referral for prosecution.
Seen an indictment?
I am happily surprised and glad I was wrong.
Horowitz, whether on his own or via pressure from outside appears to have put country before career.
Well done Sir!
Youre not......smart.....are you.

Katie, Barr the door.
We’ll see how the AG handles this one.
Expeditiously or??
A group trial would be fitting, worked for the Nazis at Nuremberg.
Barr said in his confirmation hearings he took the job to protect the institution.
None of the participants in the Kenyanesian Usurpation are going to be prosecuted.
My apologies
I was under the impression that
reading the article before posting
was frowned upon here at FR

But what will AG Barr do?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve been thinking about this since watching the video. The DOJ did not prosecute the memo issue and many talking heads said that was wise because it was a grey area.
But today’s video included Jim Jordan noting the difference between what Comey told POTUS (i.e., assured him his was not under investigation) and what Comey did that indicated POTUS was under investigation.
Jordan was pointing to Comey trying to set-up President Trump and THAT is part of the coup. So this could unravel the coup.
Barr already passed on the memo stuff, but not other content including signs that Comey was acting in coordination with others to set up POTUS. We’ll see but this looks good.
PS: Meadows also asked something about sexual harrassment and when Horowitz responded, Meadows noted that was “very carefully” answered. So there’s probably something in the IG re sexual harassment they could pursue as well.
I will believe it when I see it.
No. It’s the recent IG report that Barr would not prosecute. The info coming out of the DOJ was that it was not a certain win. I think this says the information was not classified, elsewhere I’ve read it was “confidential”. That might put it in the FOUO category which makes “intent” very hard to prove.
The discussion I’ve heard and read is that Barr is waiting for a slam dunk.
It is good to know, though, that Comey was referred for prosecution. His demand for an apology looks really stupid now.
I doubt it...Comey should be indicted for EVERY crime he committed...Not just the worst one...With 3 indictments for criminal activity there would be a better chance of crushing him like he needs to be...
Typical Marxist tactic. When losing on facts Attack the messenger.
Of course I know you are trolling me.
LOL.
I think the article is distorting the truth. I just watched this morning’s congressional hearing with Horowitz in which Rep. Meadows said that the outcome of today’s hearing is that Comey is referred to Horowitz and Horowitz acknowledged that.
So the article provides old news at the top and then white washes today’s request for referral:
I’ll put a quote below but Meadows did not ask Horowitz to “look into allegations”; Meadows said a result of today’s hearing is that he is referring Comey to the IG re the content of the IG’s report. HEre’s the white washed excerpt from the very bottom of the article:
“Rep. Mark Meadows, North Carolina Republican, asked Mr. Horowitz if he would look into allegations Mr. Comey lied during his 2017 Senate testimony. Mr. Meadows said he believes there were numerous times where the ex-FBI directors testimony did not match revelations included in the inspector general report.”
“He would look even better standing beside his former boss.”
...under a sturdy oak with his loafers three feet off the ground.
Is this a test?
lol.
Future indictments will be welcome. Better late than never. But Barr completely Fd this up. Royally.
We'll see.
While you're hot, who will shoot next in Iran?
“Michael Horowitz said Wednesday that he referred former FBI Director James Comey for criminal prosecution earlier this year after concluding he leaked sensitive materials to a friend.”
DoJ has already declined to prosecute that.
Still waiting for the next report (FISA abuse), which covers more serious issues.
You'd get away with it too, most likely. What Comey leaked was not the sort of material that constitutes a felony. Misdemeanor leak of confidential material, maybe. Most leaks of classified material are not felonies, contrary to popular chat.
