2020 Democrats’ Demand For Kavanaugh Impeachment Will Kill Them In Swing States

One year later, Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation battle continues to illustrate the divide between the far left and much of the rest of the country, a gulf worsened by the media, and invisible to elite Democrats. On Sunday, The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway caught the New York Times omitting the highly relevant detail that his purported victim reportedly does not remember a new Kavanaugh allegation attributed to her. No matter, by Monday, every major 2020 candidate except Joe Biden had called for the justice’s impeachment.

At a Winning for Women lunch earlier this month, I asked Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel whether the party was still feeling the effects of Kavanaugh’s confirmation battle. Her answer—a resounding yes—takes on new relevance now

In the polarized political climate of today’s America, anyone who is a “swing” voter is plain old stupid.

Next Paragraph in the Article:

Calling the confirmation a “pivotal moment for [the GOP],” McDaniel said it “brought people back to the Republican Party” and spurred lost donors to send checks.

Democrats are energizing a huge Red Tide. They don’t know when to stop digging. I hope they keep it up.

Calling for Kavanaugh’s impeachment is like waving a red flag in front of s maddened bull.

It’ll spur more than writing checks. It will bring out conservative voters to the polls.

...anyone who is a “swing” voter is plain old stupid.”

...couldn’t agree more. “Independent” means liberal. The Dem party is now solid socialist. Years ago we had blue dog, yellow dog etc. You cannot vote for the “right person” anymore.

History and experience of others means nothing, apparently. Look what happened to the Republicans when they tried to force removal from office upon Slick. And Slick really HAD committed “High Crimes and Misdemeanors”, but was offered the opportunity to stand trial in the Senate for what were really much lesser charges (lying under oath).

Agreed.

The Kavanaugh Hearings were NOT the Dem Party’s finest moment.
In that sense it was very foolish for them to bring it up again and remind these voters.

This assume most voters in those states actually know who Kavanaugh is.

* * *

Yes, but nothing is working for them! Going back to Kavanaugh is a desperation move. They’ve got nothing left.

I’m sure, seeing those thousands of New Mexico voters packed into an Albuquerque arena put a big lump in the throat of the Dems!

Trump is muscling into Blue States — and he’s gonna win!

I can’t help but think that the average person, who is pretty disconnected from politics (maybe they’re a lot smarter than us?) will not react well to Kavanaugh’s ALLEDGED high school or college behavior being brought up yet again. Most people who hear that would say, “This crap AGAIN?! Can’t these people accept that they lost and leave the guy and his family alone? Screw these people, even if they have a few good ideas, they’re crazy - I’m not voting for them.”

“...anyone who is a ‘swing’ voter is plain old stupid.”

This may be true, but swing states are not necessarily full of swing voters. They are states that are more evenly split between left- and right-leaning voters. The issue in these states is turnout, which is directly correlated with voter motivation.

For example, as a demographic, black voters lean heavily toward the Democrat brand. They were more motivated to show up at the polls to support the first black president, partly because of what it meant symbolically. They were not at all motivated to vote for Hillary even if they did not particularly like Donald Trump.

“’Independent’ means liberal.”

That’s not always true. A lot of conservatives on this forum, including myself, quit identifying as Republican years ago because the GOP sold us out. We generally vote Republican, but some of us will not support a Mitt Romney or John McCain even if it means losing to a Democrat. (As a pragmatist, I personally voted for both when they were presidential nominees but, in retrospect, I don’t think I would do it again.)

So, I am stupid?

Here is a definition of a “swing voter” (just looked it up)

“swing voter - a voter who has no allegiance to any political party and whose unpredictable decisions can swing the outcome of an election one way or the other.”

The only thing that is even remotely unpredictable in my decision making process is if I will vote at all. Sat out a couple General elections, but leaped off the bench for Donald Trump. I can tell you if the Republicans go back to nomination people like McCain and McRomney again I will have no problem becoming a bench warmer again.

I have no allegiance to any political Party. My political leanings are and always have been defined as being a Constitutional Conservative.

I was a slave to the feckless Republicans for over 40 years.
Now I vote as I see fit. Political parties, while entrenched, will ultimately be the downfall of the Republic.
George Washington warned us of that repeatedly in his Farewell Address.

To classify one of many who support Mr. Trump who are registered without Party affiliation as “stupid” isn’t all that bright.

I can’t speak for others who share that voter classification, but being marginalized by Republicans only solidifies my reasons for leaving the Party over a 2 decades ago.

I realize that I have led with my chin here, so swing away.

"It’ll spur more than writing checks. It will bring out conservative voters to the polls."

Thank you for seeing the whole picture. Being conservative does not necessarily equate to being Republican.
