Mark Sanford announces Trump primary challenge: GOP 'has lost our way'
Fox News ^ | 09/08/2019 | Ronn Blitzer

Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford announced Sunday that he is running for president as a Republican, becoming the latest to challenge President Trump in the GOP primaries.

Sanford said the Republican Party is facing an identity crisis, and he wants the GOP to take a look at itself and do some soul searching.

“I think we have to have a conversation about what it means to be a Republican,” Sanford told “Fox News Sunday,” claiming the party “has lost our way.”

Sanford specifically made reference to the debt, deficit and government spending. Other conservatives expressed concern about these issues when Trump helped Congress pass a spending bill that increases spending caps and suspends the debt ceiling, allowing for more government borrowing until July 31, 2021. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., blasted his colleagues at the time, saying it “marks the death of the Tea Party movement in America.”

Sanford also challenged Trump’s tactics when it comes to trade, saying that engaging the world when it comes to trade is “one of the hallmarks of the Republican Party.”

He also brought up political culture, which he said has been “damaged” by Trump. “We need to have a conversation about humility,” Sanford said, blasting Trump’s social media habits by claiming that a tweet “is not leadership.” …

The Repuke establishment is pissed because we’re no longer falling for their BS anymore. President Trump has proven that all you need to do is push back a little on the Dems and they go crazy because they can’t handle it. If these CONservative establishment Repukes had actually fought back against the Dems just a little bit we would have seen the Democrat implosion decades ago!

No, we are not a “representative democracy”, which as I noted would be the same as saying we are a representative socialist state. Please take note of the publications I quoted; the lessons may be dire, but they are necessary.
What will be the course of this revolution? Above all, it will establish a democratic constitution, and through this, the direct or indirect dominance of the proletariat.

— The Principles of Communism

(T)he first step in the revolution by the working class is to raise the proletariat to the level of ruling class to win the battle of democracy.

— Manifesto of the Communist Party, chapter 2
Those fondest of the word “democracy” hold exactly these ideals, which include the abolition of family, private property, religion and national borders.

Open conversation about the direction of the party is pointless when the people who are claiming to be the standard-bearers for the party's principles are such feckless, disingenuous @ssholes.

Just go through the tired, pathetic two-faced litany of public comments from John McCain (for example) about various executive actions taken by Obama, then rescinded later by Trump. First he criticized Obama for bypassing Congress and legislating through executive orders on any given issue (Iran deal, DACA, Paris Accord, etc.) ... then he turned around 2-3 years later and criticized Trump for overturning Obama's ILLEGAL executive orders.

Nobody with an IQ over 70 should even bother listening to any career politician who claims to be interested in a "conversation about the direction of the party."

I voted for Donald J. Trump in 2016 because I honestly don't give a flaming sh!t about "the direction of the party."

Shutting down the primaries actually makes a LOT of sense.

It protects the GOP from the unmitigated disaster that would unfold if states like California are successful in keeping Trump off the primary ballot over his refusal to release his tax returns.

What would happen if we get to the spring of 2020 and Trump isn't even eligible to appear on a primary ballot in a bunch of heavily Democratic states that comprise 40% or more of the Republican Party delegates?

“I thought the RNC is closing down the primaries.”

the GOP in several individual states are on the verge of eliminating their presidential primaries ... four states so far, including South Carolina ...

Up to 4 now - which is still less than the 8 - 10 average from both sides since the 90’s.

Note to Mark Sanford: Take a hike. I hear the Appalachian Trail is nice this time of year...especially the southern most part that is in Brazil.

Good point. But I don't think that will happen. But I never believed communists would be so popular in America, either.

We could play games in the Rat primaries if we didn't have one!

“As a benigh challenger, his purpose will be to promote Republican views that are not derrogatory to the President’s re election effort”

Sanford is hardly “benign”: he’s a liar, a piece of shite, and a total scumbag who cheated on his wife in front of a national audience and destroyed his family:

The GOP establishment are ideologically aligned with the Democrats. One and the same with them.
The New Deal, Dean Acheson wrote approvingly in a book called A Democrat Looks At His Party, “conceived of the federal government as the whole people organized to do what had to be done.” A year later, Mr. (Arthur) Larson wrote A Republican Looks At His Party, and made much the same claim in his book for modern Republicans. The “underlying philosophy” of the New Republicanism, said Mr. Larson, is that “if a job has to be done to meet the needs of the people, and no one else can do it, then it is the proper function of the federal government.”

Here we have, by prominent spokesmen of both political parties, an unqualified repudiation of the principle of limited government. There is no reference by either of them to the Constitution, or any attempt to define the legitimate functions of government. The government can do whatever needs to be done; note, too, the implicit but necessary assumption that it is the government itself that determines what needs to be done. We must not, I think, underrate the importance of these statements. They reflect the view of a majority of the leaders of one of our parties, and of a strong minority among the leaders of the other, and they propound the first principle of totalitarianism: that the State is competent to do all things and is limited in what it actually does only by the will of those who control the State. …

The Conscience of a Conservative (1960), Chapter 2, page 15

Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

— Communist goal #15
Why would the GOP establishment fight their own?
