Pentagon approves use of military construction funds to build Trump's border wall

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper has authorized the use of $3.6 billion in military construction funds for 11 wall projects on the southern border with Mexico, according to defense officials and a letter from Esper to the Senate Armed Services Committee, which has been obtained by CNN.

In his letter, Esper told Congress he has "determined that 11 military construction projects along the international border with Mexico, with an estimated total cost of $3.6 billion, are necessary to support the use of the armed forces in connection with the national emergency."

The announcement fulfills a promise made by President Donald Trump in February to tap military construction funds to build his border wall. The move was slammed by Congress when it was first announced and only recently completed a Pentagon legal review.

Defense Department officials say 127 military construction projects are being put on hold in order to use the $3.6 billion to fund building 175 miles of southern border wall.

Construction is expected to begin in about 135 days according to Deputy Under Secretary of Defense Comptroller Elaine McCusker.

According to chief Pentagon spokesperson Jonathan Hoffman, half the money is coming from deferred projects overseas, and the other half were planned for projects in the US.

Though it's unclear which military construction would be put on hold, the move could put at risk projects such as command and control, drone, cyber and training facilities in the US and overseas.

White House officials have held talks in the last weeks to begin planning for the move, two administration officials said, which would shift funds from the Department of Defense's military construction budget to fund the border wall.

The move would rely on Trump's February emergency declaration, which has faced stiff legal challenges.

“the inward (Towards Mexico) curved fence”

Much tougher for free climbers, but actually easier for a ladder (unavailable to inmates).

“Mayor of Nogales is raising nine kinds of hell over that razor wire. LOL!”

It probably is a bit of overkill. Two or three strands near the top do the great bulk of the work for immigrants.

The street level concertina doesn’t really prevent passing small packages of drugs.

“I seriously doubt any further “tick tocks” will produce any charges against anyone.”

I never believed there would be any charges. The elites aren’t subject to the laws that govern the “little” people.

we tested that I don’t understand your comment. Our inmate and civilian work crews had access to ladders.

“I don’t understand your comment.”

I’m saying that if your ladder reaches the top of a fence, it is actually easier to get from the ladder over the top of the fence, if the fence is curved over toward you. You can lay on it a bit more than the top of a straight fence.

I see. the fence we tested was 30 feet if I recall correctly. The ladders only got them so far up the fence not close to the top. My original was they can get a pad and get over concertina, but you have to get up there of course..

I think the key is height of the fence.

Best wishes. Let’s call it Kate’s wall.

If the top of a fence curves in significantly toward you, it will defeat the great bulk of free climbers. It is a freakish challenge for rock climbing specialists - the kind of freaks who do one finger pull ups.

Thirty foot fences are enough to deter most people. Any additional obstacle (even a single strand of concertina) at that height is terrifying.

Also, President Trump is insisting the bollard fence/wall be painted black. Black will absorb the desert heat and make the steel hot as hell. Paint will also make the surface slippery. Look out beeee-looow! LOL!

“They couldn’t spare anymore money than that?”

The new fiscal year (new money) begins in 27 days.

There is so much going on with putting segments of wall up, and now this big chunk released as well, and yet still idiots will whine “Trump isn’t doing anything”.

It’s habbening!

Whatever Trump does ... he needs to somehow entrench these projects to make it harder for the dems to pull the plug when they get in power

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They never will have power again. They can’t win without election fraud of many kinds, based on illegals voting. That is being cleaned up. Dems are increasingly unpopular among existing registered Dems and traditional Dem voting blocks.
If they don’t win elections, they’d have to get the military on their side and have a civil war.
It is NOT “Trump’s border wall.” We all paid for it and many of us want it.
